Su Hui exerted his strength, kicked aside several zombies blocking his way, and rushed into the gate first.
Harley followed closely behind, executing a graceful side somersault to dodge a zombie's attack and slipping into the building as well.
The moment the two rushed into the building, the zombies outside lost their target, crowding the entrance and roaring wildly, but dared not easily step into the building.
It seemed that something inside them frightened them.
23. Black Guy and Intelligence
Inside the laboratory building.
A strong smell of disinfectant mixed with a faint stench of blood and decay wafted towards us.
The emergency lights emitted a faint green glow, barely illuminating the empty hall.
There were some debris and dried bloodstains scattered on the ground.
Compared to the hustle and bustle outside, it was unusually quiet here.
This is a typical layout of an American university medical building, with spacious corridors and closed doors to laboratories, dissection rooms, or offices on both sides.
Floor index signs are also hanging on the wall.
[First Floor: Lobby, Emergency Room Simulation, and some basic laboratories]
Second floor: Anatomy laboratory, pathology laboratory
[Third Floor: Pharmacology and Microbiology Laboratories]
Fourth Floor: Precision Instrument Room, Research Offices
Fifth Floor: Animal Experimentation Center, Rooftop Platform
Scattered on the corridor floor were scraps of paper, an overturned instrument cart, and several pools of dried or semi-dried blood.
Strangely, the building was unusually quiet.
Apart from the howls of zombies coming from outside, there were almost no other sounds, and no trace of zombies could be seen.
This created an eerie contrast with the dense horde of corpses outside.
"Honey, it's so quiet here."
Harley whispered, looking around curiously.
Close your eyes,
The faint attraction Su Hui had felt during the day reappeared, and became even clearer.
The calls kept coming from upstairs, urging him to come up.
But the more it is like this, the more abnormal it seems.
When Su Hui opened his eyes, they were calm and showed no sign of urgency.
The two of them carefully made their way forward along the corridor.
The rooms on both sides of the corridor are mostly laboratories or offices, with various medical terms labeled in English on the doorplates.
Through the broken doors and windows, one could see that the inside was in complete disarray, with various experimental equipment and documents scattered all over the floor, and even some dark red bloodstains remaining on the walls.
The corridor was quiet, without a sound except for the faint footsteps and breathing of the two people echoing in the darkness.
This deathly silence only made people more uneasy.
"Honey, look!"
Harley suddenly pointed ahead and said in a low voice.
Su Hui looked in the direction she was pointing, and his pupils suddenly contracted.
At the end of the corridor, in front of a tightly closed door, lay a corpse.
The body was highly decomposed and its original appearance was no longer visible; it could only be barely identified as a male corpse.
He was wearing a white coat, with a huge gash torn open in his chest, his internal organs scattered all over the ground, a bloody mess, a truly gruesome sight.
Around the body, there were still a lot of bloodstains and bits of flesh on the ground, and the air was filled with a nauseating smell of decay.
"A survivor?"
Harley frowned, a hint of doubt in her voice.
Su Hui shook his head, his expression solemn.
"Not like."
The manner of this corpse's death was completely different from the wounds inflicted by ordinary zombies.
It's more like... being torn apart and killed by some more ferocious beast.
Moreover, judging from the degree of decomposition of the body, the time of death must have been quite some time ago.
"Be careful, this place might be more dangerous than we think."
Su Hui reminded him again, gripping the long sword in his hand tightly.
There must be a demon in the abnormal situation.
Logically speaking, this kind of place should be a zombie-infested area.
But the zombies gathered outside the building, too afraid to enter, making the place all the more eerie.
The two continued forward, bypassing the corpse on the ground, and headed towards the nearby emergency staircase.
The stairwell was equally silent.
The only sound was the faint thud of their footsteps on the dusty steps.
One floor, two floors.
The journey was smooth.
When they reached the corner of the stairs leading from the third to the fourth floor.
Su Hui stopped abruptly.
He gestured for Harley to be quiet.
The latest update from the book club (705U.com) is "Apocalypse America: Synthetic 3D Female Lead".
A faint sound came from the direction of the fourth floor.
It wasn't the howl of a zombie.
It is the voice of a human being.
Suppressed sobs.
The woman's sobs.
There was also the man's heavy breathing and low curses.
The voice was intermittent, filled with despair and a nauseating quality.
Su Hui's eyes turned cold.
He tiptoed and slowly approached the stairwell on the fourth floor.
Harley also abandoned her playful mood, her expression turning serious as she followed closely behind Su Hui. (The last two lines are a nonsensical string of characters and don't translate directly.)
The sound became clearer and clearer.
It seemed to be coming from a room not far from the stairwell.
The door to the room was ajar, and light was seeping through the crack.
Su Hui cautiously approached, pressed himself against the wall, and peered through the crack in the door.
The room appears to be a small lounge or office.
The scene inside caused Su Hui's pupils to contract slightly.
Several tall Black men were gathered there.
It was the same group of people who had escaped back to the lab building during the day.
One of the Black men was pinning a white woman in a white coat, who looked like a researcher or doctor, down on the table.
The woman's clothes were torn and disheveled, her mouth seemed to be gagged, and she could only let out desperate whimpers as her body struggled violently.
Several other Black people sat or stood nearby, some expressionless, others grinning, seemingly enjoying the atrocity.
"Hurry up, Johnny, it's my turn."
A Black man urged, his tone revealing undisguised desire.
The black man called Johnny was even more violent, thrusting his lower body while cursing.
"Damn, this bitch is so tight..."
"Wait until I'm done before you come."
The woman's sobs grew even more piercing.
In another corner, two other women were huddled together, trembling, their faces filled with fear and numbness.
Su Hui's gaze swept over the group of black men.
They were in terrible condition, their faces showing exhaustion and terror, but their eyes were filled with the madness and violence of surviving a catastrophe.
"...We can't stay here forever."
A slightly calmer Black man spoke up, his voice a little hoarse.
"There are all those ghostly things outside, how are we going to get out?"
"What about those monsters upstairs?"
Another Black man chimed in, his voice tinged with obvious fear.
"That thing... is much scarier than the zombies outside!"
"Who wouldn't want to leave this godforsaken place? Just thinking about all those zombies upstairs gives me the creeps!"
"It seems quiet now, but who knows when it will come out again?"
Johnny stopped what he was doing, seemingly also reminded of the fearful memories.
"Shut up!"
He growled.
"Let's deal with the immediate problem first!"
"We'll think of something when it gets light."
"If all else fails, we'll use these women as bait and then charge out!"
There was a brief silence in the room.
All that remained were the woman's suppressed sobs and the man's heavy breathing.
Su Hui withdrew his gaze expressionlessly and slowly stepped back.
upstairs.
Sure enough, there is something.
The source of that attraction he felt was likely the monster, or something related to it.
He glanced at Harley beside him.
Harley licked her lips, her azure eyes gleaming with a mixture of curiosity and bloodlust.
She seemed oblivious to the violence in the room, but more interested in the "monster upstairs."
"Honey?"
She looked at Su Hui with a questioning gaze.
24. To establish authority through murder
Su Hui and Harley exchanged a glance.
His gaze was cold, carrying an undeniable understanding.
Without further hesitation, he reached out and gently pushed open the slightly ajar door.
