Chapter 41 I've got you guys now!
"Honestly, I should really make a walking stick!" Kane pulled Harlow and the other man along as they sped through the Forbidden Forest. A dark shadow, as black as ink, slowly spread out behind them, obscuring the dark wizard's view.
"Master, I can't see those little wizards anymore because I don't know what kind of magic they used." Quirrell had just unleashed a burst of flames that burned all the killer bees that attacked him to charcoal. When he tried to track them down, he could see nothing but darkness, not to mention people. Even the trees in the distance were completely obscured.
"Look at the magic, Quirinus. Once you see its true nature, you'll discover that these shadows that blind you all originate from that glittering little wizard," Voldemort, who was glued to the back of Professor Quirrell's head, spoke slowly.
"Sparkling?" Quirrell looked bewildered as he gazed at the receding shadows in the distance.
???
Voldemort:.........
"Never mind, he didn't see you. Let's continue with the plan. For now, we don't need to worry about Dumbledore. As for that little wizard... Quirinus, I think you'll have to show some real skill in the next Defense Against the Dark Arts class for first-year students."
In a panic, Kane and his two companions rushed out of the Forbidden Forest and headed straight for Hogwarts Castle.
"What do we do now?" Ron asked, panting, after running to the side gate of the castle.
"Go tell Dumbledore, does he think this is some kind of Japanese anime, where elementary school kids save the world?" Kane said, pushing open the side door.
...? ? ?
At this moment, the side door lock is firmly in place, showing no mercy whatsoever.
"Ah, looks like I'm not the only one sleeping on the streets tonight." Hermione's soft voice came from not far away. She had come out to change her mood after being provoked by Kane in the Gryffindor common room not long ago.
Then when I came back, I don't know which damned person locked all the gates of the castle, big and small. I looked at my pocket watch and realized that it was already time to close the gates.
I thought I would be sleeping on the streets all alone today, but I didn't expect to run into three old acquaintances.
Looking at Kane, who was also locked outside, Hermione felt a strange and morbid sense of comfort.
No matter how illustrious your family background is, even the headmaster of Hogwarts avoids you. With the school locked and no one noticing, and no amount of personal connections can help, you still have to stand outside in the cold wind with us commoners.
"Alahoko Open." Kane tapped the lock on the side door with his wand, and with a click... it did nothing.
"I've already tried it, and it seems that the outer doors of Hogwarts can't be opened with magic," Hermione explained.
Clang!
"This gate is so flimsy, it looks like the fence gate to Aunt Susan's vegetable garden... So you never thought of kicking it? Never mind, maybe you want to be a lady... Shall we go in together?"
Kane thought he was being very kind by saying that; his tactful language didn't make Hermione feel embarrassed in the slightest.
"Thank you, I'll definitely buy a hammer later!" Hermione said loudly first, then kept muttering to herself in a voice that everyone could hear.
"Shall we go back to the Gryffindor Tower together?" Hermione asked Kane and the others after taking another breath of the warm air inside Hogwarts.
"No, we need to see Dumbledore to report something. Want to come along?" Kane swore he was just being polite with that last sentence; who knew...
"Of course, let's go together!" Hermione readily agreed. As always, when a rich friend is willing to share any resources with you, including but not limited to taking you to meet anyone you can't meet in person, you should say "of course" without hesitation.
After all, you can't give up a promising future just for a cold, indifferent face.
"Okay, let's go." Kane scratched his head. It wasn't exactly a secret that he had encountered a dark wizard in the Forbidden Forest, tricked him into giving him a basic attack, and then escaped unscathed. Bringing one more person wouldn't hurt.
Soon the three arrived at the stone statue guarding Dumbledore's office.
The two stone statues were very intelligent; upon seeing Kane, they immediately made way for him, and the four of them walked smoothly into Dumbledore's headmaster's office, which was empty and unlit.
"Where is Headmaster Dumbledore?" Harry frowned.
"An old man like him should be sleeping, of course." Kane said, pushing open the hidden door to the principal's office and walking into his bedroom.
The remaining three, Harold and Harold, did not make any rash moves, since the idea of waking up Dumbledore from his sleep was too abstract.
However, Kane didn't care where he was; the situation was so urgent that he naturally had to resort to some extraordinary measures.
However, it is clear that Dumbledore probably used extraordinary means, so much so that Kane could not wake him up no matter how much he shook him. In the end, he had no choice but to write down what happened in the Forbidden Forest on a piece of parchment and put it on Dumbledore's slippers.
"He'll know all about this tomorrow morning. We can go now," Kane said, emerging from the bedroom.
"Hmm... Kane, are you that familiar with Professor Dumbledore?" Hermione asked tentatively.
"It was alright, we were just roommates for a few days." Kane shrugged and left the principal's office with the three of them.
Before leaving, he also took a few pieces of chocolate from Dumbledore's desk that he couldn't finish and shared them with them. They must have been terrified by their encounter with the dark wizard in the Forbidden Forest, and a piece of chocolate would help them calm down.
"Should we be heading back to the tower now? Or do you have any other activities planned?"
After finishing her meal, Hermione looked at Kane and the others. She had originally wanted to remind them that they should return to their dormitories as soon as possible, otherwise they would lose points for Gryffindor and bring shame to Professor McGonagall. If this was recorded in their files, they would be unable to take the civil service exam for the Ministry of Magic, and their lives would be ruined.
Then, thinking about how she almost ended up spending the whole night on a forced overnight trip, she decided not to say anything like that—like blaming the cook after a full meal.
"Hmm..." All three of them pursed their lips and fell silent.
Seeing the three's reaction, Hermione naturally recalled the farce that had happened in the Great Hall at dinner.
"You guys aren't really planning to challenge Malfoy and his crew to a wizarding duel, are you?"
"There are 3 vs 4 spots for wizard duels now, and we're still one short." Harry, the idea genius, tried to get Hermione involved.
It's not that I don't trust Kane's fighting ability, but rather that if things really come to light, having another person can help share the punishment.
For some reason, he had a bad feeling.
Never mind, I must have misunderstood. Anyway, once he wins the wizard duel later, he'll go back... Strange, why does that ominous feeling have intensified again?
"Um, no, you guys should go to the wizard duel. Anyway, I believe you can defeat Malfoy and Anrella. I'll head back to the Gryffindor tower now." Hermione declined Harry's invitation; breaking school rules was something she could do once and for all.
Should I take the initiative to do it?
Hermione looked at the three people opposite her: a Celestial Dragon of the wizarding world, a savior of the wizarding world, and a veteran pure-blood wizard. What did she have that she was qualified to break school rules with them? Wouldn't that just be asking to be blamed?
And so, the group parted ways on the fifth floor. Hermione headed towards the Gryffindor Tower, while Kane and the others continued towards their agreed-upon location, the Trophy Display Room.
"I really think we're all pretty carefree," Ron suddenly said.
"Hmm?" Kane and Harry both looked at him.
"Think about it, we just encountered the Dark Wizard in the Forbidden Forest not long ago, and after barely escaping, we immediately went to fight Malfoy and the others. It doesn't seem like something a normal person would do," Ron explained.
"What else can you do? Just because you met the dark wizard once, do you stay cooped up in bed every day and dare not go out?" Kane said, raising an eyebrow.
"Honestly, I'm really sleepy right now." Harry yawned. If it weren't for the pride and the legitimate opportunity to beat up Malfoy, he would really want to fly into his bed as fast as he could.
"Hurry up, we're waiting to sleep after the duel." Harry said, quickening his pace. Soon the three of them arrived at the agreed-upon trophy display room.
Unfortunately, the person in the exhibition hall was not Malfoy Enrella and his companions, but Felch, who was sitting alone in a solitary seat, waiting for his prey to come to them.
Felch grinned, revealing his uneven, yellowed teeth, and said, "I've got you now!"
