Chapter 30 The Destined One
Chapter 30 The Destined One
"This is the guidance of the goddess of fate."
Even amidst the noisy exchange, those thunderous words still echoed in Suren's mind.
Suren frowned; he remembered Cole's badge.
"Is it to avenge Cole, or something else?"
Suren pondered for a moment, then glanced at the trader and asked, "Did he leave any other messages?"
The trader nodded, took a small box and a letter from the cabinet, and handed them to Suren. Suren opened the box; inside was a slightly antique silver ring, with a small card underneath.
At the top of the ring is a symmetrical six-pointed star, with a black cross engraved in the center.
Suren noticed that the box was made of ordinary wood, which meant that the ring was either cleansed of its negative "blasphemous creation," was an alchemical artifact, or was simply an ordinary ring—although the probability of that was very small.
"The gentleman asked me to give this to you, saying it's his future investment," the woman explained, taking out a form. "I hope you'll sign here to prove I've completed my task so I can receive the £10 reward."
£10 as a commission fee for handing over the goods is quite generous.
Suren examined the form and found it to be a simple authorization document. He picked up the pen on the counter and signed his name.
Suren handed the form back to the woman and asked her question, "Do you remember what that man looked like?"
Suren wasn't worried that the other party would refuse with "no comment," since that would render the mysterious person's so-called investment meaningless, and besides, Suren already had a guess in mind.
"I couldn't see the man's face clearly, but he was dressed quite elegantly," the trader replied apologetically, pointing to the notice board. "In fact, you should have already seen him; he's the man who accepted the bounty."
Suren nodded, thanked him, and thought to himself, "It really was him."
"Why would such a powerful figure pay attention to me? Rather, what investment value do I, an ordinary 'Seeker of Reason,' have? If it's just for revenge, there's no need to make it so complicated." Suren pondered as he opened the letter.
The letter contained only one sentence: "To the 'Destined One': With this inscription I offer my sincere regards. Farewell, Libraton."
The letter was unsigned and did not mention a specific place for the meeting, as if it was certain that they would meet again.
After Suren finished reading the letter, it seemed to be gnawed away bit by bit by invisible insects.
"I hate riddle people the most," Suren thought to himself.
He looked at the ring with a headache. According to the small card in the box, Suren understood the ring's function. It was called the "Mandala Ring".
Its function is simple, like a storage ring in a novel, and it can even protect against the negative effects of "blasphemy." It has no time limit, no negative effects, and not even internal space limitations.
This ring was undeniably powerful. But the more powerful it was, the more suspicious Suren became of the man's motives. At this moment, Suren actually hoped that the ring carried a hidden negative connotation; after all, the free stuff is often the most expensive.
Suren thought for a moment and decided to use the "Manuscript of the Truth Speaker" to verify whether there was a problem with the ring after returning home, and then make a decision.
Putting the box in his pocket, Suren composed himself and looked at the remaining items on the display shelf. Two more items were worth noting.
One of the items is an ornate bow and arrow called "The Bow of Guaranteed Hit," with a label in gold lettering that reads: "Alchemy Product, 3 Years Old."
To its left is a ring inlaid with a ruby. According to the label, it is called the "Ring of Death." Its effect is to decompose and reassemble items, but the cost is that the wearer of the ring will also be slowly decomposed.
Unsurprisingly, these two items were only available for barter. From the trader, Suren learned that these items were deposited here by other people for sale, and were not all items of the exchange.
Suren didn't linger after that, since he was only looking at these items to broaden his horizons. His main purpose for this trip was to sell his "Evil Spirit Dust Crystals".
Suren did not consider trading with the official traders of these "Mist Exchanges," after all, their prices were too low. They sold a "Demon Dust Crystal" for 300 pounds and bought it back for 100 pounds, blatantly treating everyone else like fools.
Suren squeezed through the bustling crowd and stepped into the trading area on the left.
It wasn't as chaotic as Suren had imagined. Apart from the people setting up stalls, there were even a few people holding simple wooden signs with crookedly written items for buying or selling.
Suren didn't rush to shout out her items for sale; instead, she strolled around at a leisurely pace.
The price of extraordinary materials is relatively unstable and fluctuates greatly, so he needs to have a general idea of it.
After asking around for over half an hour, Suren had roughly settled on his bottom line. This stroll also yielded some unexpected finds; besides the usual extraordinary materials, there were people selling handwritten copies of forbidden knowledge, but because the authenticity of these items was impossible to verify, the prices weren't very high.
Suren thought to himself that he could buy some at a low price. He didn't expect to gain anything from the books, but at least he could learn more about the public's views on superhumans and perhaps find some useful clues.
Having made up his mind, Suren took out the two "Evil Spirit Dust Crystals" directly from his canvas bag. He coughed, then raised the "Evil Spirit Dust Crystals" high and collided them in the air, producing a pleasant sound.
This move immediately attracted a lot of attention, and soon Suren was surrounded by a crowd.
There are various interpretations of the existence of extraordinary beings among the public, but the materials used in the ritual remain unchanged. As the key to unlocking the door to the extraordinary, "Evil Spirit Dust Crystal" is naturally a hot commodity.
After a period of price back and forth, Suren sold a "Demon Dust Crystal" for £230.
Just as Suren and the others were haggling over the price, a timid female voice came over: "Sir, could you give me a discount on your 'Evil Spirit Dust Crystal'?"
"Don't buy it if you don't have money." A chorus of curses and swears erupted from the surrounding area, mostly directed at the newcomer.
Suren looked toward the source of the sound and saw a girl who looked to be just coming of age. She had long brown hair, was thin and looked somewhat malnourished, and her cheap linen dress was covered in patches.
Suren was stunned, because he recognized the girl; she was Old Vic's daughter.
