Chapter 22 Lord of the Storm
Chapter 22 Lord of the Storm
"Fire!" Peturabo immediately gave the order.
The Iron Warrior fired his explosive gun wildly, but the bullets passed right through the vengeful spirit's body and hit the opposite wall.
Even the scorching flames fired from the molten cannons in the hands of the siege guards could only make the vengeful spirits dissipate slightly before they reformed in the blink of an eye.
A vengeful spirit pounced on a steel warrior and burrowed into his power armor.
The soldier immediately let out a painful roar, his body involuntarily raising his explosive rifle and aiming it at his comrade.
"Kill him!" Peturabo roared, swinging his sledgehammer and smashing the soldier's head.
But more vengeful spirits surged in, the steel warriors fell one after another, and the defense line crumbled.
Their expertise in steel and gunpowder was utterly useless against these invisible subspace creatures.
"Purify!"
Li Wei's voice suddenly rang out.
He took out the long-unused three-ring purification crystal from the system space, held the crystal high, and activated his mental power.
A dazzling silver light surged from Li Wei's hand like a tidal wave, instantly engulfing the entire cabin.
The vengeful spirit touched by the light instantly let out a mournful scream, then vanished without a trace as a wisp of green smoke.
The vengeful spirits that had burrowed into the power armor were also forced out by the light and vanished into nothingness in the silver glow.
In less than ten seconds, all the vengeful spirits vanished completely.
The chilling resentment in the cabin vanished, and even the black traces of resentment that had condensed on the walls became dull and lifeless.
The Iron Warriors stared at Li Wei in disbelief, forgetting to put down their explosive guns.
They fought for a long time and suffered heavy losses against the enemy, only to be defeated by this psychic with a single psychic spell.
Peturabo tightened his grip on the engineering hammer, his face flushing red and then turning pale.
After a long while, he roared fiercely at his men:
"What are you all standing there for? Clean up the battlefield! Move all the bodies out and give them a proper burial!"
After shouting, he turned to Li Wei and said:
"...You did a decent job."
Li Wei did not respond, his brows still furrowed.
The Thousand Sons' flesh mutations I witnessed in Prospero are still fresh in my mind. Those seemingly purified flesh mutations suddenly erupted a few days later, almost devouring a Thousand Sons warrior.
He had long ago come to a bloody conclusion: there has never been a "complete solution" to anything related to the subspace.
He touched his brow with his fingertip, whispered an incantation, and activated the wizarding world's heritage—the Abyss Resonance Technique.
This is the only spell that comes with the Abyss Resonance spell at the Wizard Apprentice level. It grants the user the ability to see through the nature of the warp and ignore ordinary disguises and illusions.
Pale purple lines crept up the corners of his eyes, and a deep, abyss-like black vortex appeared in the depths of his pupils.
The once peaceful cabin instantly changed in his perception.
The silver-white alloy hull was covered with dense black threads, which undulated inside the metal like blood vessels, extending from the corridor to the deepest part of the warship.
Those seemingly clean cabin walls were emitting faint but deadly subspace radiation in every inch.
Li Wei's voice turned somber: "This ship is completely contaminated."
"What did you say?" Peturabo whirled around. "I just had the technical sergeant check it out. Aside from some damage to the propulsion system, the subspace engine can start normally!"
"I'm not talking about the surface," Levi said, pointing to the deck beneath his feet. "The entire alloy structure of the warship has been permeated. It's not possessed by a vengeful spirit; it's the shell of that warp creature itself. This warship should be the Storm Lord those cultists talk about."
Peturabo's face instantly darkened like a block of iron.
He stared intently at the data on his wrist, which showed everything was normal, obtained from the recent investigation of the warship.
Although data cannot be faked.
But the scene of the vengeful spirit bursting through the wall and the warriors turning against him was still vivid in his mind, and the abyss-like black vortex in Li Wei's eyes forced him to believe this unbelievable conclusion.
He paced back and forth a couple of times, gripping the engineering hammer, the soles of his boots scraping against the metal deck with a harsh sound.
He always felt that the warship was slipping out of his control.
After a long pause, he suddenly stopped, turned to look at Li Wei, and said in a tone as hard as stone, "Then tell me, how do we do it?"
This was the first time in his life that he had taken the initiative to ask a psychic for advice on how to deal with an enemy.
It seems we also need to establish a think tank. The fact that Li Wei single-handedly resolved the crisis that the Fourth Legion was helpless with is enough to prove that Magnus's psionic system is not entirely useless.
When Li Wei heard Perturabo's question, he also felt uneasy. This warship was already bound to the Lord of Storms, and he had no way to deal with it.
Destroying the warship will unleash the Lord of Storms, at which point the entire Dawn Star will become food for warp creatures; ignoring it is even worse, as this thing will eventually awaken completely.
After a moment, Li Wei had an idea and said in a calm tone:
"Leave it to Thousand Sons. We have specialized spirit-sealing runes that can safely bring this ship back to Prospero for slow purification. The Iron Warriors aren't good at dealing with this kind of thing; keeping it around will only cause trouble sooner or later."
These words were spoken flawlessly, entirely in the tone of someone who had the big picture in mind.
But only Li Wei himself knew that the so-called "purification" was just a facade.
He planned to embezzle the warship and sell it to the witch Elizabeth as repayment for the previous set of array diagrams that eradicated flesh mutation.
The Storm Lord before them, though not a demon under Tzeentch's command as required by the sorcerer Elizabeth, was a high-level warp aggregate formed from the resentment of a psyker who died tragically, essentially no different from a warp demon.
At this time, the warp is calm and peaceful, and demons rarely appear in the material universe on their own initiative, making them virtually impossible to catch.
As for capturing the guardian spirit of the thousand children to repay a favor, Li Wei found it both laughable and exasperating.
The original owner of this body was truly unlucky; his psychic talent was indeed extremely high, and his ability to attract demons was also extremely high.
The Guardian Spirit system was not mature, and very few scholars from the five major schools had mastered it.
As for the scholars who have mastered the art of summoning, their guardian spirits are merely warp creatures, not Tzeentch demons.
After he became the chief think tank, he confiscated and destroyed all the summoning books of the guardian spirits and ordered that they be forbidden from being studied.
"Really?" Peturabo stared at Levi's fully enclosed helmet with a puzzled look, trying to find something amiss from his body language and tone of voice.
But he quickly gave up. Li Wei was wearing a helmet that fit perfectly, and his breathing and heart rate were normal. There was no way to find any flaw in Li Wei's attempt to embezzle the warship.
Through his helmet visor, Li Wei watched the Iron Lord's suspicious and furrowed brows, and chuckled inwardly.
The psionic scholars under Magnus's command have all cultivated ten levels of the mental cultivation system, possessing extremely high spiritual cultivation. They are inscrutable, and others cannot detect whether they are lying or harboring selfish motives.
