Chapter 194 The Dementors and 5 Letters
Chapter 194 The Dementors and 5 Letters
Draco wasn't the only one feeling terrible during the holiday; Harry also felt so depressed he was about to explode.
The summer heat, devoid of even a cool breeze, made Harry's life unbearable. Despite this, Harry still endured the scorching sun and hid under the windowsill to eavesdrop on the news on his aunt and uncle's television.
"The strike by Spanish porters..."
"The drought situation in the southeastern region..."
"A helicopter nearly crashed..."
He listened to every single news report, but apart from the trivial details, not a single news item mentioned anyone mysteriously disappearing or having a strange accident.
This news made him even more agitated. He couldn't believe that Voldemort would be so quiet after his return. Something must be holding him back!
Who could it be? Dumbledore? Or someone else?
He considered going upstairs to release Hedwig, but he quickly dismissed the idea because Ron and Hermione had sent him more than one letter.
But aside from the so-called "secrecy" and "Dumbledore's request," they didn't reveal a single useful word to Harry. The atmosphere remained calm and even a hint of Voldemort's resurrection was kept secret.
Based on what Dumbledore had said to him last semester and what he had seen in the headmaster's office, he had some vague suspicions that they were still unwilling to break the current false peace.
He was so lost in thought that he didn’t notice Uncle Vernon approaching the window where he was.
"What the hell are you doing hiding here?" Uncle Vernon was furious, his face turning red with anger.
"I...I was just listening to the news."
Harry's honesty did not earn him Uncle Vernon's trust; they insisted that Harry was making excuses for his laziness.
Seeing that Uncle Vernon was going to make a fuss over this, Harry's temper flared up. Before he could react, he turned around, ran across the lawn in front of the door, and strode into the street.
He wandered aimlessly down the street, his mind a jumbled mess.
Harry was somewhat surprised by Dudley's sudden appearance.
Without thinking twice, Harry followed.
In the darkness of night, something strange happened. The star-studded night sky suddenly turned pitch black, without a single ray of light—the stars, the moon, and even the dim streetlights along the alley all went out, and the world suddenly fell silent.
"Did you do something?!" Dudley's terrified voice pierced Harry's ears.
"I didn't do anything! Shut up! Don't move!" The familiar feeling made Harry even more irritable.
"I...I can't see, I didn't do anything!" Dali was still panicked.
“I told you to shut up!” Harry yelled.
Harry's anger forced Dali to quiet down, but Harry was not in good condition. He couldn't help but shiver from the chill, and goosebumps rose on his arms.
In the dim light, a massive hooded figure silently swept toward him, hovering high above the ground as it moved, seemingly devouring the darkness bit by bit.
Dementors?
How could they possibly be here?
Harry stumbled back a few steps and raised his wand.
"Treator Muhammad—"
"Treator Muhammad—"
"Treator Muhammad—"
The tall, strong stag drove the Dementor slowly to the end of the alley, where it finally disappeared in a wisp of silver smoke.
He then realized that his T-shirt was soaked with sweat and stuck to his body. He couldn't believe that Dementors were here, in Little Huijin, right where he lived.
"Hurry! Child!"
Harry turned around and saw Mrs. Figg.
The eccentric old neighbor appeared before them, panting heavily.
Harry instinctively raised his wand at her, but her next words left him frozen in place.
"Stop hiding, silly child. We need to leave quickly. What if there are still their people around?"
"you………"
Harry was so shocked he couldn't speak.
Isn't she a Muggle?
Why is that so strange?
Seemingly sensing what Harry was thinking, Mrs. Figg paused for a moment and said, "I'm a Squib, so I can't help you get away from the Dementors, but I know we need to get out of here quickly!"
Harry, stunned, grabbed Dudley, who was sprawled on the ground, and limped after Mrs. Figg as they left.
Harry wasn't fully recovered even after stepping into the Dursleys' house.
But seeing Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia hurriedly helping Dudley up, a sense of panic crept into Harry's heart.
Sure enough, when Dudley pointed at him, Harry felt a chill run down his spine, and fear and anger almost overwhelmed him.
"I warned you, kid, don't use those tricks of yours again!!!" Uncle Vernon roared at Harry like a mad bull, seemingly starting to give up on himself.
"I do not have."
Harry's words sounded like a lie to them, which made them even angrier.
"Why did Dali become like this? Explain it to me! I want to see what other lies you can come up with!"
“It’s a Dementor,” Harry said, barely suppressing his disgust.
"What?" Uncle Vernon didn't react.
"I told you, it was the Dementors who attacked him!" Harry couldn't help but shout.
Vernon became even angrier because he couldn't understand.
“They guard the wizarding prison in Azkaban,” Penny said, immediately regretting it.
She couldn't understand why she still remembered these useless things...
“…Penny?” Uncle Vernon was stunned.
“It was Lily who mentioned it to that strange boy,” Aunt Penny said, and then refused to say anything more.
Harry had never realized so clearly that Aunt Petunia was his mother's sister...
Before Harry could say anything, the arrival of an owl broke the awkward silence in the room.
Harry reacted quickly, grabbing the letter before Uncle Vernon could react.
The contents of the letter froze Harry's blood; he stared intently at the sentence:
"...Therefore, you have been expelled from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry..."
Expelled?
Are you kidding me?
Is this a prank?
The words "Ministry of Magic" clearly written on the envelope left Harry frozen in place.
Then, the arrival of another owl nearly drove Uncle Vernon to the brink of collapse.
Arthur's letter made Harry feel slightly warmer.
Even Uncle Vernon's rage couldn't affect him.
The third letter arrived quickly, but Harry paid no attention to Uncle Vernon's breakdown.
This is a letter from the Ministry of Magic, stating that the Ministry has reversed its decision to expel Harry, but he still has to go to the Ministry of Magic for trial.
A short while later, Sirius's letter instructed Harry to stay obediently in the Dursleys' house.
The fifth letter made Uncle Vernon abandon his idea of kicking Harry out.
Because that letter was for Aunt Penny.
Later, Aunt Petunia persuaded Uncle Vernon to let Harry stay at home.
Just like that morning many years ago.
