Chapter 27 Dawn in the Darkness
Chapter 27 Dawn in the Darkness
The black wind frantically channeled its spiritual energy, on the verge of self-destructing its golden core. I hardened my heart, about to unleash the power of my magic weapon to end it all, when a deep voice suddenly rang in my ears: "Stop!"
The sound seemed to carry an invisible pressure, instantly piercing my eardrums and reaching the depths of my soul, causing me to freeze in place. I looked around blankly, and Li Yan and Windrunner also looked puzzled; clearly, they hadn't heard the sound.
"Xiao Yao, what's wrong?" Windrunner asked worriedly, but I couldn't answer him, only staring intently ahead. Just now, I sensed a powerful and mysterious aura rapidly approaching! This aura was far superior to Black Wind's, even several times stronger than Windrunner's!
"Who is it?!" Li Yan also sensed something was wrong and gripped her longsword tightly with vigilance.
The wind and sand howled, and the sky and earth changed color. An invisible pressure, like Mount Tai pressing down on us, enveloped us! I felt short of breath, and my body seemed to be imprisoned, unable to move.
A figure clad in a black robe, his face concealed beneath a cloak, slowly descended from the sky. He exuded a chilling aura, and even a single glance from him made me feel incredibly oppressed.
"Who are you?" I asked, forcing back my fear.
The man in black robes ignored me, only glancing coldly at Hei Feng, who had collapsed to the ground, before turning his gaze to the magic weapon in my hand and saying indifferently, "This magic weapon is not something you can control."
His voice, though not loud, reached the ears of everyone present clearly. Windrunner's expression changed; he stepped forward and asked in a deep voice, "Who are you? And why are you interfering in this matter?"
“I am the guardian of this magical artifact,” the man in black robes said slowly. “Its power is too great; if used improperly, it will bring unimaginable disaster.”
His words exploded in my ears like thunder. I looked at the magical artifact in my hand in disbelief, a storm raging within me. Guardian? Disaster? What did this mean?
The man in black robes ignored my shock and simply extended his hand, gesturing for me to hand over the magical artifact. I instinctively gripped the artifact tightly, my heart filled with hesitation and unease.
“Give it to me,” the black-robed man said calmly, yet with an undeniable air of authority. “Only I can stop the disaster.” My palms were clammy with cold sweat, and the magical artifact's radiance seemed to dim slightly. The guardian's words echoed in my mind, like a shackle binding my thoughts. Could this magical artifact truly, as he claimed, possess the power to destroy everything?
Li Yan was also staring intently at the man in black, her fingers gripping the sword hilt so tightly they turned pale. Although she didn't speak, I could sense her tension and unease. We exchanged a glance, both seeing the same confusion and fear in each other's eyes.
The man in black robes seemed to see through our thoughts. He sighed slowly, his tone tinged with helplessness and pity: "This magical artifact is called 'Star Soul.' It possesses the power to communicate with heaven and earth and reverse the universe. It was created to protect this world, not to satisfy personal desires, much less to kill."
As he spoke, he gently touched the ground with his finger, and the Star Soul slowly flew out of my hand, hovering above his palm. The originally dim light now became exceptionally dazzling, as if a star was rising in his hand, illuminating the entire dark world.
We were all stunned by the sight before us, holding our breath, afraid of disturbing this sacred moment.
"The power of the Star Soul comes from the beliefs of all things in the world. It can purify all evil and heal all wounds." The black-robed man's voice became deep and resonant. "But if it is controlled by someone with malicious intent, it will become the source of destruction and bring endless calamities."
As he spoke, he manipulated the Star Soul, and the Star Soul's light conjured up all sorts of strange scenes: mountains and rivers, sun, moon and stars, flowers, trees, birds and beasts... These scenes were lifelike, as if they had life, flowing and breathing in the Star Soul's light.
"Do you know why evil spirits roam the world and why disasters are so frequent?" the man in black robes suddenly asked.
Li Yan and I both shook our heads, our eyes fixed on the light of Xinghun, not daring to look away even an inch.
“That’s because,” the man in black paused, his tone becoming heavy, “the hearts of the people.”
"Human nature?" I couldn't help but repeat, my heart filled with doubt.
The man in black robes did not answer, but instead manipulated the light of the Star Soul to present a scene before us: greed, jealousy, hatred, slaughter... all kinds of negative emotions intertwined, forming black vortexes that devoured everything of light and beauty around us.
"When the human heart is consumed by desire, evil will be born, and evil is the root of all disasters in this world," the man in black robes said slowly. "The power of the Star Soul is to purify this evil and protect all things in the world."
His words were like a wake-up call, deeply moving me. Looking at the Star Soul in my hand, and then at the black-robed man before me, an unprecedented sense of mission welled up within me.
He's right. The power of the Star Soul is so immense; it should never be used to satisfy personal desires, much less become a tool for slaughter. I clenched my fist, silently making a decision in my heart…
The black-robed man's words were like a bolt of lightning, cleaving through the fog in my heart. I had never imagined that a magical artifact could hold such profound significance; it carried not only power but also the responsibility of protecting all things in the world. I looked up at the black-robed man; his face was hidden in darkness, but I could feel the unwavering resolve and compassion in his eyes.
“You’re right,” I said firmly, taking a deep breath. “The power of the Star Soul should not be abused. I am willing to follow you and learn how to use its power correctly to protect all things in this world.”
Li Yan stepped forward, took my hand, and said firmly, "I'm willing too."
The man in black robes looked at us, a hint of satisfaction in his eyes. "Good children," he said softly, "your hearts are pure, making you the best candidates to wield the Star Soul. Come with me, I will take you to a place where you will learn everything about the Star Soul."
As he spoke, he turned and walked towards the stone wall, gently pressing his hand on a seemingly ordinary stone. Instantly, a crack appeared in the stone wall, emanating a soft white light, like a gateway to another world.
We followed the man in black robes into the crevice, and the stone wall behind us slowly closed in, isolating us from all the noise of the outside world. The scenery before us suddenly opened up, and we felt as if we had entered a paradise.
Here, birds sing and flowers bloom, a spiritual atmosphere pervades the air, and ancient buildings are nestled among green hills and clear waters, resembling a fairyland. In the distance, several cranes circle and dance in the air, emitting clear and melodious calls.
“Where am I…” I looked around, speechless with surprise.
"This is the Star Luo Secret Realm, the place where the Star Soul Guardians of all generations have cultivated and lived," the man in black explained. "From today onwards, you will live here, and I will pass on all that I have learned to you, helping you to master the true power of the Star Soul."
Li Yan and I exchanged a glance, both seeing excitement and anticipation in each other's eyes. We were about to embark on a brand new journey, a journey full of challenges and opportunities.
“Follow me,” the man in black said, turning and walking deeper into the secret realm. “Let’s begin…”
Life in the Star Luo Secret Realm was even more arduous than I had imagined. Every morning, before the first rays of sunlight touched the earth, we had to rise and cultivate. From the most basic breathing techniques to the methods of manipulating spiritual energy, the mysterious man taught us everything he knew without reservation. He was strict yet kind, like an elder, leading us step by step on the path of cultivation.
Li Yan progressed rapidly; she was exceptionally intelligent, with a particularly outstanding sensitivity to spiritual energy. As for me, although I was somewhat slow in cultivation, I never gave up. I practiced again and again, breaking through my limits time and time again, my clothes soaked with sweat, which also fueled my determination.
The secret realm not only offers rigorous training but also various trials. We often need to venture into dangerous areas to find rare spiritual herbs; we also have to face attacks from various spiritual beasts to hone our combat skills. Several times, we almost lost our lives to these beasts, but whenever we were in danger, a mysterious figure would always appear in time to resolve the crisis.
“Remember, the power of the Star Soul is not omnipotent,” he once warned us. “Only by becoming strong can you truly master it.”
I kept his words in mind and dared not slacken in the slightest.
And so, time flew by, and five years passed in the blink of an eye.
Over the past five years, both Li Yan and I have experienced a qualitative leap in our abilities. I can feel the immense power within me, as if it could burst forth at any moment. Li Yan has also blossomed into a graceful young woman, radiating confidence in every gesture.
"Are you ready?" On this day, the mysterious man called us to his side, his tone more serious than ever before.
Li Yan and I exchanged a glance, and we both saw a firm belief in each other's eyes.
"Ready!" we answered in unison.
The mysterious figure nodded and led us to an ancient altar deep within the secret realm. The altar was surrounded by mysterious runes, exuding an ancient and mysterious aura.
“Where is this…” I looked at the scene before me, feeling a vague unease in my heart.
“This is the place where the Star Soul sleeps,” the mysterious man said in a deep voice. “Only here can you truly awaken its full power.”
As he spoke, he took out a crystal-clear jade talisman from his pocket and handed it to me, saying, "Infuse your spiritual power into it, and it will guide you to find the key to awakening the Star Soul."
I took the jade talisman, feeling a warmth in my palm. I took a deep breath, exchanged a glance with Li Yan, and then we simultaneously channeled our spiritual energy into the jade talisman…
The jade talisman suddenly shone brightly, and a beam of light shot into the sky, reaching straight into the clouds.
"Go, children," the mysterious voice echoed in your ears, "the gears of destiny have begun to turn, and the future is in your own hands..."
Following the beam of light, we walked step by step deeper into the altar. Something seemed to be hidden there, beckoning us…
