Chapter 6 Monster
Chapter 6 Monster
Lorne held the bottle containing the "monster" potion, his arm trembling slightly. Even disregarding other factors, the appearance of the potion in front of him was unsettling.
Contrary to expectations that all materials would blend seamlessly into one, the liquid in the bottle was murky, like adding soda to milk tea. It looked nauseating and was different from the form of the "Assassin's" potion.
Lorne brought the bottle to his lips, then put it down after a few seconds, looking somewhat hesitant.
"No, I can't hesitate any longer." Considering his current situation, Lorne decided to push himself.
Good, I don't feel that fear I felt before.
Fate did not stop him.
After taking one last look at the potion and finding nothing amiss, Lorne decided to go for it.
Just like the first time my classmates persuaded me to drink beer, I closed my eyes, tried to ignore the strange sensation and taste on my tongue, put the bottle to my lips, and then drank it all in one gulp.
The moment the potion entered his mouth, Lorne felt a strange taste, as if he were swallowing jelly. Forcing himself to ignore the strange taste, Lorne tried to swallow and forced the potion down.
Glug! Glug!
The jelly-like potion swept down my throat, then slid down my esophagus and into my stomach.
"ah."
He involuntarily convulsed, everything before his eyes seemed to overlap, the boundary between reality and illusion blurred, and countless complex pieces of information flooded his mind, as if trying to cleanse his soul.
At this moment, Lorne was glad that his willpower was not bad; if his willpower had been any weaker, he probably would have died on the spot.
Huff~ Huff~
"I succeeded? I've become a 'monster'?" Lorne's breathing gradually calmed down, and his expression slowly returned to normal.
He looked at his hands and felt that nothing had changed; they hadn't transformed into the monster he had imagined.
However, Lorne still felt dizzy. He could sense the power of the potion, but he didn't seem to be able to fully control it.
A few minutes later, Lorne gradually regained his senses, and at the same time, he also gained occult knowledge about the 'Monster' potion.
"Monster" is sequence 9 of the "Monster" pathway.
They possess inspiration far exceeding that of ordinary people, often able to hear sounds others cannot hear, see things others cannot see, and even occasionally glimpse future scenes, with a keen intuitive premonition of danger.
As Lorne absorbed the knowledge, his expression froze, as if he were waiting for something. He remained frozen in place for several seconds before he finally reacted.
That's it? That's all!
Is that all the effects of the "Monster" potion?
What's the use of this?!
Please, shouldn't a 'monster' be someone with a terrifying, menacing appearance?
Even if you mutate or become beast-like or something, I won't say anything. At least it can be considered a life-saving ability.
Occasionally, I can glimpse scenes of the future, which seem similar to what happened to me just now? Lorne recalled the scenes in his mind not long ago.
Isn't this the cheat code that allowed me to travel through time?
Then the monster potion would be even more useless, since I already have that ability myself.
Lorne slumped into the chair, his face filled with despair.
"Meow?"
Lorne frowned and opened one eye, seeing the orange cat standing on the desk in front of him.
For some reason, Lorne seemed to see a human-like smile in this cat.
The smiling cat and the frowning Lorne formed a stark contrast.
"Get off, get off, leave me alone!" Lorne said irritably, reaching out to shoo the cat away.
"Awoo—"
The orange cat leaped off the desk, but instead of falling immediately, it floated in the air like a feather before gently landing on the ground.
"Huh?" Lorne was stunned by this scene.
This is this...
No, even a cat is better than me. How can there be such a big difference between us when we're both using magic potions?
"Oh no, I've been completely screwed over."
"This 'monster's' ability is something you can't overcome by brute force!"
It's no wonder Lorne thought that way; the power of this "monster" potion was really too useless, and it even overlapped with the power of his own cheat ability.
That's right, Lorne treated the images and reminders in his mind as cheat codes, after all, it's reasonable for a transmigrator to have some special privileges.
"No, I can't give up. I'm a transmigrator, there must be other ways." Lorne stood up and paced back and forth in the room, trying to cheer himself up.
"A transmigrator can't die so easily. I still have the cheat of having a sense of destiny, so there must be another way."
"An extraordinary gathering."
Lorne remembered that "Bottle" would be taking him to an extraordinary party tonight.
Perhaps we can try our luck; maybe we can find a solution to the problem.
Even if he didn't, he might still gain some knowledge about extraordinary individuals, since the original owner of this body hadn't received any professional mystical education.
Aside from some occult language, most of his knowledge comes from hearsay or unprofessional books, the kind that look very unreliable, which has led to Lorne's current extreme lack of this kind of knowledge.
Of course, if there's really no other way, he can run away.
Running away might mean certain death, but not running away will definitely mean certain death.
Lorne wasn't sure how far the silver-haired woman could track him.
But running away can at least buy you some more time.
"That's what we'll do!"
Lorne got up and packed his clothes. He had decided that if he couldn't find a solution to the problem at the Extraordinary Party tonight, he would just go to the train station and run away by train.
As for where to go, the farther the better, of course.
Lorne began packing his luggage. He might not be back for a long time, so he wanted to take everything he could.
He also found clothes, gold pounds, and some remaining spiritual materials. He opened a drawer and took out a silver knife, a gold-inlaid pocket watch, and a gold coin with a unique pattern.
This was the original owner's collection when he was a rich young master; now it is Lorne's reserve fund.
These little gadgets aren't very valuable, but they're easy to sell; they can be easily sold in an emergency.
"Oh, and you too." Lorne grabbed the orange cat that was watching him pack his things.
"Awoo~"
Lorne grabbed it with his arm and stuffed it directly into his shoulder bag.
Then Lorne pulled out a large leather trunk and stuffed it full of clothes, spiritual materials, and some gold and silver valuables.
"Oh, and Mrs. Griffin too."
Lorne suddenly thought of his landlady. If that silver-haired woman came to his door and he left, Mrs. Griffin might be implicated.
"No, I still have to let them know, otherwise it would be too unfair."
After some thought, Lorne decided to inform Mrs. Griffin. Although he had realized that this hardcore old lady had some secrets, he still couldn't let her take such a big risk.
