Chapter 95 Golden Dream
Chapter 95 Golden Dream
A salty sea breeze carrying the smell of fish wafted towards him as Lorne stood on the swaying deck, gazing at the port that was much smaller than Bayam.
"We've arrived," Danitz said with a sigh of relief.
"What do you mean now?" Lorne asked.
"Of course we should contact the captain and the others. If nothing unexpected happens, the Golden Dream should be in the nearby waters."
Lorne didn't move. He stared at Danitz's bandaged leg: "Are you sure it's safe here? If 'Steel' could ambush you once, it could ambush you a second time..."
"Impossible," Danitz interrupted Lorne. "We've already left Bayam."
As he spoke, he prepared to disembark.
"Feed." Lorne suddenly grabbed Danitz, who was about to disembark. "Tell me the truth."
He looked directly into the pirate's eyes: "Do you really have the right to bring outsiders aboard the 'Golden Dream'?"
"Of course..." Danitz's eyes darted around, and after a moment he sighed, "But, those occult knowledge I promised you..."
"I need to ask the captain's opinion first..."
Unlike typical pirate crews, this crew, whose route will be through the Iceberg, has strict requirements regarding knowledge. All sailors on board must attend classes regularly.
Therefore, Danitz knew some ritual magic for communication, which allowed him to contact the captain of the Golden Dream when he was not far away.
Then, the two of them found an empty alley and tried it.
……
"The captain agreed, and the 'Golden Dream' is very close to us," Danitz said excitedly.
Upon hearing this, Lorne took out a coin, flicked it lightly into the air, and then quickly caught it. He glanced at it and saw that it was heads.
"What's next?" he asked Danitz.
"Follow me!"
Instead of entering the city, Danitz led Lorne around to a private harbor, where they boarded a simple fishing boat and headed out to sea.
Nearly two hours later, a clean and tidy sailboat, several tens of meters long, came into view, reflecting a golden hue in the sunlight.
"Golden Dream"... Lorne looked at the ship in front of him.
It was indeed quite impressive, completely different from the dilapidated and dirty pirate ships he remembered from movies.
That was… Lorne's gaze was drawn to a main cannon on the ship. Compared to the cannons he remembered, it was extremely unusual; the symbols and patterns on the barrel were layered, shimmering with a faint but pure light. In terms of shape, it somewhat resembled the main cannon of an ironclad warship.
Seemingly noticing Lorne's shock, Danitz proudly explained, "That's the Purification Cannon. It can only be used ten times. After that, six 'Priests of Light' need to perform a ritual to pray to the gods to replenish our spirituality."
"Priest of Light"...a god...judging from Danitz's previous attitude towards gods, this so-called god should be a true deity. So, their pirate crew actually has a church background. Lorne remained outwardly calm, but inwardly he was filled with unease.
Are there any pirate groups with official backing...?
The level of mysticism involved in that Purification Cannon must be quite high. The fact that the "Golden Dream" can handle it proves that it does indeed have sufficient mystical knowledge. This time, we made the right choice.
Before long, the "Golden Dream" launched a small boat and quickly approached the fishing boat.
Danitz jumped down and landed steadily on the small boat.
He whistled excitedly, then greeted the pirates piloting the small boat warmly. Back at sea, he was beaming with joy.
"Ahem!"
Lorne coughed lightly to indicate that he was still there.
Damn it! I forgot about this guy... Danitz stopped smiling and introduced Lorne to his companions.
Lorne smiled and greeted them.
On the small boat, Danitz moved next to Lorne and said in a low voice, "Hey, remember what we agreed on, we'll keep what happened these past few days to ourselves."
……
Lorne didn't say anything, but just looked at him with a slight upturn of her lips.
This expression made Danitz uneasy.
"Hey, are you trying to go back on your word?!"
……
...
After a moment of silence, Lorne chuckled:
"How could that be? I'm not a bad person..."
A few minutes later, Lorne successfully boarded the deck of the "Golden Dream" and saw a figure leaning against the mast.
She was a beautiful woman with an oval face, a high nose, thin lips, and a pair of light blue eyes that resembled clear spring water.
Intellectual, beautiful, and elegant, with impeccable manners.
Lorne never expected these words to be used to describe pirates.
Is this the "Iceberg General"? No wonder Danitz had a crush on her.
Lorne didn't linger his gaze for too long, otherwise it would have been very impolite.
Thanks to the influence of the "Phantom" and the characteristics of the "machine" itself, Lorne has a much higher resistance to women than the average person.
"Hello, Mr. Monkey Brando," Lieutenant General Iceberg spoke first.
"I am Edwina Edwards."
"Hello, Captain." Lorne gave a slight bow.
"Thank you for helping Danitz," Edwina continued.
"He told me you're a newly recruited subordinate."
Subordinates? Is that what Danitz said?
Lorne frowned slightly, glanced at the somewhat embarrassed Danitz beside him, and after a moment's thought, spoke:
"We should be friends rather than subordinates. Danitz and I hit it off immediately and became close friends after going through some ups and downs."
Lorne then briefly described what had happened recently, but of course, he generously omitted some embarrassing little secrets.
Edwina listened calmly to Lorne's story. "Danitz said you want to stay on the Golden Dream to study?"
Lorne nodded: "Yes, I've heard that you are very knowledgeable."
"Mr. Brando, have you received any education?" Edwina suddenly changed the subject and asked.
What kind of question is this? Is there an educational requirement? After a slight pause, Lorne replied, "I'm currently a university student."
As for whether it's a university in this world, don't ask.
Reading? Upon hearing this, Danitz, who was standing to the side, also turned his gaze over.
Noticing the gazes around him, Lorne explained:
"There was a family emergency, so I have to temporarily suspend my studies."
……
"What languages do you know?" Edwina asked again.
Lorne thought to himself, "This feels like being asked a question by a teacher," but he still told the truth:
"Hermesian, some Giants' language and Elvish."
Edwina nodded slightly.
"How well do you know about other aspects of occult knowledge?"
If I knew this place well, I wouldn't have come here.
Seemingly noticing the question in Lorne's eyes, Edwina explained:
"I need to consider your level of knowledge when deciding how to answer the question so that you can understand it more easily."
Lorne was somewhat surprised. This was no pirate; she looked like a serious-looking but kind and approachable young female teacher.
The two then chatted briefly. Edwina understood Lorne's desire to learn more advanced occult knowledge.
"You can stay on the Golden Dream to study, and I will also provide you with some tutoring."
"You can attend morning classes with the sailors tomorrow."
Early morning classes? There's such a thing? Isn't this supposed to be a school?
For some reason, Lorne suddenly felt a deep-seated fear about the life ahead.
"Meow?"
As the two were talking, Rachel poked her head out of Lorne's bag, gave a rather human-like yawn, and looked around at her surroundings with a sleepy expression.
Before Lorne could react, it leaped out of its satchel and began to look around, seemingly completely unconcerned about the ring of pirates around it.
"Meow~" After circling around, it came to Edwina and meowed happily.
"What a clever cat!" Edwina's red lips twitched slightly, revealing a rare smile.
"It's my pet. I don't think there's a rule against keeping cats on the ship."
"Of course not," Edwina said softly.
……
Finally, Edwina looked at Danitz and said, "Your food, clothing, and lodging on the ship will be arranged by Danitz."
……
After Lieutenant General Iceberg left, Lorne, carrying Laki, approached Danitz, who was chasing away his colleagues, and said coldly:
"Subordinate?"
Danitz forced an awkward smile: "Let me explain."
Lorne waved his hand: "Let's talk about the saw and the legs instead!"
