Chapter 27 Top-Tier
Chapter 27 Top-Tier
Xiao Wei chimed in, "Sleep wherever you want! This place is huge, no one can crammed in like this. Look at the classroom, there are only a few dozen people sitting here. Even if only a third of them are locals, this room can only sleep about twenty or thirty people. It's spacious." He turned to Li Na and asked, "By the way, Li Na, when does school start? How many students have you enrolled yet?"
Li Na said to Xiao Wei helplessly, "Zhang Wei, can you call me brother? It's written on the receipt I gave you that school starts on the 12th, which is the day after tomorrow. Why don't you even look at anything yourself and just keep asking questions?"
Xiao Wei was taken aback for a moment and said, "Was it written on? I didn't notice, and none of you mentioned it. How was I supposed to know it was on the receipt? Uncle Li, did you see it? Uncle Yang, did you see it? Xia Maosheng, did you see it?"
Li's father said, "I saw it." Yang's father and Xia Maosheng both shook their heads. Xia Maosheng sat down on the upper bunk and took out the receipt to look at it. As he looked, he said, "It says it says school starts at eight o'clock on the morning of the 12th. Damn, what's going on? I didn't notice it just now."
Li Na said, "Alright, you didn't see it yourself and you're blaming others. Come out and get your luggage with me."
Xia Maosheng jumped down from the top bunk, patted his backside, and said, "Let's go, where are we going to get it?"
Li Na said, "It's in the warehouse on the first floor. It was just brought back yesterday. It was supposed to be distributed on the 12th, but you're here first, so just take it and stay here. Otherwise, you'll have to stay in a hotel."
The group walked out again, and when they reached the main gate, another girl sitting behind the table said to Li Na, "Li Na, this place also offers accommodation. Why don't you help them check in together? I'll take the money." The young man who had been standing there silently smiled at everyone; he seemed to be a rather quiet person.
Accompanying him was his mother, wearing a woolen coat, with hair wax in her hair, and a red and purple scarf around her neck. The mother and son had been standing there without saying a word, but now the mother smoothed her hair, forced a smile, and said, "Oh dear, I wasn't paying attention earlier. You all live here? My son lives here too. He's young, so you'll have to be considerate of him in the future."
Xia Maosheng stared at the woman for a moment, then looked back at Xiao Wei, who was also looking at him. Xia Maosheng opened his mouth and silently said, "Idiot." The two of them chuckled together, then followed Li Na out without saying a word.
Only Li Guangzhao's father among the crowd spoke up: "It's alright, we've all come from so far away, it's only right that we look out for each other."
The woman turned to look at her son and said, "My son is a bit quiet, but he likes to keep things clean. You should ask your son and his friends to be more considerate of him, okay?"
Li's father was speechless. He nodded politely, lowered his head, and walked out.
The woman didn't say anything more and followed him downstairs.
Downstairs is the restaurant's back entrance, which could also be considered the main entrance. The main gate facing the street was added later during renovations; originally, there was only this one entrance. Once inside, the restaurant is quite spacious, with dozens of tables of various sizes. Almost half of the first floor of the Cultural Palace is the restaurant lobby. Private rooms weren't popular back then; even high-end restaurants like the Jiuge City that Xiaowei had visited only had a chest-high railing. This layout is more like a later type of booth, except it contains large tables that can seat about ten people.
The restaurant wasn't open yet; it was pitch black inside, with only a few spotlights shining from the entrance.
Upon entering, the warehouse is on the left. It's usually where drinks are stored, but now it's filled with military luggage, blankets, mattresses, and pillows, all bundled together neatly.
Li Na unlocked the door and went inside, calling out, "Xia Maosheng, here you go. Yang Tiebin, Li Guangzhao, Feng Liangliang. Okay, take it upstairs and find a place to put it. I won't go up; we're about to open for business here."
Xiao Wei asked, "Li Na, what are you doing here? Do you work at this restaurant?"
Li Na reached out and pushed Xiao Wei, who had half his body sticking out of the warehouse, out. She turned around, locked the door, and said, "What? You have a problem with that? The school is owned by our boss. I'm the supervisor at the restaurant. I'm on duty today. Come on, don't delay me."
Xiao Wei nodded, pursed his lips, and turned around to walk out with Xia Maosheng and the others who were carrying luggage.
Just as they reached the restaurant entrance, only two or three steps away, Feng Liangliang's mother suddenly reached out and stopped Xiaowei, handing him her luggage and saying, "Classmate, you're empty-handed, help me carry this upstairs."
Xiao Wei took a step back without taking the things or saying anything. He glanced at Feng Liangliang's mother strangely, then turned and walked past the luggage she was holding.
Feng Liangliang's mother: "Sigh, sigh, how can you be like this? Would it kill you to help carry that? A grown man like you, going upstairs empty-handed, don't you feel ashamed?"
Xia Maosheng turned his head and whispered with a smile in Xiao Wei's ear, "This mother and daughter are quite something, I've never met anyone like them before."
Xiao Wei shook his head and didn't reply.
Xia Maosheng glanced at the mother and daughter sideways and said, "Talk to her, don't spoil her."
Xiao Wei smiled, gave Xia Maosheng a push, and the two walked out.
Feng Liangliang's mother continued to yell, "Hey, how can you be like this? Don't you have any manners?"
Xiao Wei stopped, turned around, and looked at Feng Liangliang's awful mother, saying, "You have manners? Who taught you and raised you?"
Feng Liangliang's mother was stunned for a moment, then her face changed drastically. She shouted shrilly, "Who are you calling rude? Who are you calling ill-mannered? Where are your parents? Where did this bastard come from?"
Xia Maosheng frowned and said from the side, "Are you sick? Go get treatment if you're sick. Nobody's going to put up with you here."
Feng Liangliang's mother threw her luggage on the ground and screamed, "Who are you cursing? What business is it of yours, you little bastard?"
Xia Maosheng was already tall, and now standing on the steps looking down at the woman, he sneered and said, "You think you're someone special? It's none of my business, but if it were, I'd kill you. What kind of trash are you? Did you raise someone like you?"
Feng Liangliang's mother turned her head and looked around, shouting, "Where's the leader? Where's the leader here? Who's the leader? Look at the mess of people you've hired! Is nobody in charge?"
The old man in the gatehouse poked his head out of the window, adjusted his reading glasses, frowned, and said, "What's all the noise about? Do you think this is your home? If you keep making noise, you're out."
Feng Liang's mother turned her head and glanced at the old man: "What's it to you? What's a gatekeeper like you doing getting involved? Hey you, where's your boss?" she shouted at Li Na.
Li Na heard the commotion and came over. She was standing by the door watching when she heard the woman's words. She glanced at her but ignored her and said to Xiao Wei, "You guys hurry up and go pack. If you need anything, go out and buy it. What are you doing standing here quietly?"
Feng Liangliang's mother said sternly, "What kind of attitude is this? Huh? What kind of attitude is this? Someone like you should be expelled."
Li Na pursed her lips, glanced at her sideways, and said, "Then fire me. What are you smug about, acting like you're sick?" She turned and went into the restaurant.
