Chapter 38 There is nothing new under the sun
Sasuke stood in the shadows at the street corner, looking somewhat hesitant.
Just as Sasuke was caught in a dilemma, Naruto, who was not far away, suddenly turned his head as if he had noticed something.
"Hmph, so you've come, Sasuke."
Naruto stood with his hands on his hips on the small bridge at the village entrance, his cheeks puffed out in displeasure.
Thinking back to last night, because of Sasuke, she had to be a bystander and even her chance to reunite with her parents was taken away.
Seeing Sasuke approach with a dark expression, Naruto sarcastically remarked, "Didn't you say all that before? Turns out you're not even as good as me, crying your eyes out in your dreams."
Sasuke's face darkened instantly upon hearing this: "You idiot! Stop spouting nonsense, what do you know!"
In his dream last night, Naruto witnessed his embarrassing state, which made the usually arrogant Sasuke furious.
Naruto was furious that Sasuke had been hit where it hurt, but he felt even more pleased.
"I'm talking nonsense? Hmph, Kakashi-sensei and Sakura both saw it! And you thief! That dream was originally mine!"
"A thief?" Sasuke retorted indignantly. "I can't control things like that! And..." He gritted his teeth, thinking of the scene in his dream where his parents were still alive, and his heart was filled with complicated emotions. "And that dream... it wasn't anything of yours."
Neither of them would give in; they glared at each other, locked in a fierce confrontation, neither willing to back down an inch.
The tense atmosphere between the two continued to escalate, their faces, filled with clenched teeth, drawing ever closer.
They were about to stick together.
At the critical moment, a clear female voice suddenly rang out from the side: "What are you two doing!"
When Sakura arrived and saw the scene, she quickly squeezed between the two, grabbing one of them with each hand and forcefully separating them: "Calm down! What do you two want to do so early in the morning, fight?"
"Sakura, don't stop me!" Naruto shouted defiantly, after being pushed back two steps by Sakura, his eyes still glaring angrily at Sasuke. "I'm going to teach this stubborn bastard a lesson today!"
"Who are you calling an idiot?" Sasuke was blocked on the other side by Sakura.
"Alright, you two!" Sakura said speechlessly, holding down one boy's shoulder on each side, creating an arm's length distance between them.
She stared at them, panting.
"Naruto, Sasuke, calm down...we're comrades."
Naruto and Sasuke turned their heads away, refusing to look at each other, clearly neither willing to show weakness.
Seeing the two of them sulking like this, neither willing to give in, Sakura couldn't help but feel helpless and sighed inwardly.
These two are such a handful!
Just as Sakura was caught in the middle, unable to move forward or backward, a lazy voice came from behind them.
"You three are so energetic so early in the morning."
Upon hearing this voice, Naruto and Sasuke exchanged a glance, then simultaneously snorted and turned their faces away, ignoring each other.
Sakura quietly released her hands from the two of them and looked back. She saw Kakashi standing leisurely a few steps away.
"Kakashi-sensei!" Sakura cried out as if she'd been saved. "You've finally arrived! They were about to start fighting!"
Kakashi dropped his usual nonchalant expression and waved his hand at the two boys in front of him, who were exchanging heated words: "Alright, alright, don't take it so seriously. What happened?"
"What else could it be? It was just a dream I had last night—"
Naruto muttered to himself, about to be the first to complain, but Sasuke glared at him fiercely.
Sasuke was clearly unwilling to talk about his embarrassing moments in his dream, so he hummed and turned his face away, preventing Naruto from speaking.
Kakashi was incredibly clever; he saw through the deception at a glance.
He scratched the back of his head helplessly and said lazily, "It was just a dream, don't take it too seriously. Okay, let's stop being so fussy. We still have a mission to carry out today, let's focus on the mission."
Upon hearing this, Naruto and Sasuke, though still unwilling to concede to each other, could not continue arguing openly after their teacher spoke, and could only give a cold snort.
Sakura finally breathed a sigh of relief when she saw that the two had calmed down for the time being.
"cough."
Kakashi, seeing that the situation was under control, was about to say something to ease the tension among the team members when suddenly—
Swish!
A dark figure suddenly appeared beside them, moving so fast that they barely saw him arrive.
The man was dressed in a dark, tight-fitting bodysuit, with a gray-white vest over it, and wore a cat-head mask on his face; he was a member of Konoha's Anbu.
Kakashi's expression turned serious as he turned to look at the Anbu member: "What's wrong?"
The ANBU member knelt on one knee and respectfully reported, "Kakashi-senpai, the Hokage requests your presence."
"What?"
Kakashi was taken aback, then realized that it was likely related to information from the dream.
His eyes narrowed slightly, and he quickly asked to confirm, "Now?"
"Yes, the Hokage is waiting for you in his office." After saying this, the Anbu member disappeared without a trace.
Kakashi hesitated for a moment, then looked at his three subordinates and said apologetically, "I'm sorry, but today's mission will have to be canceled. You should all go back and rest for now."
"Huh? They're disbanding already?"
Naruto, who had been looking forward to a challenging mission today, pouted in disappointment.
"Tch, boring." Sasuke didn't have any objections, he just snorted coldly.
Sakura also felt it was a pity, but considering the current situation, she could understand.
Kakashi nodded: "Yes, I'll let you know once things are settled."
His gaze swept over Naruto and Sasuke, then he instructed, "And you two, stop arguing over trivial matters, understand?"
To everyone's surprise, Naruto and Sasuke simultaneously turned their faces away and mumbled, "We understand..."
"These two brats..." Kakashi shook his head helplessly.
Watching Sasuke and Naruto walk away in opposite directions, Sakura hesitated for a moment before deciding to quickly catch up with Sasuke.
After all, given the current situation, she was more worried about Sasuke, who left alone with a cold expression.
Kakashi watched Naruto and Sasuke's retreating figures and sighed again, "They're really two troublesome guys."
……
soon.
In front of the Hokage's office door.
Kakashi straightened his clothes briefly, then raised his hand and knocked on the door.
"Come in." A hoarse and authoritative voice came from inside the room.
Kakashi pushed open the door and entered.
As far as the eye could see, Hiruzen Sarutobi was sitting behind his desk, fiddling with a crystal ball on the table.
The pipe was set aside, and wisps of smoke swirled and rose in the room, filling the room with a faint tobacco scent.
Kakashi recognized the crystal ball.
This is the medium of the Hokage's "Telescope Technique," which allows the caster to observe every corner of Konoha Village through a crystal ball.
"Lord Hokage." Kakashi stepped forward and bowed respectfully.
"It's Kakashi, you're here." Hiruzen Sarutobi looked up, saw Kakashi, and a kind smile appeared on his wrinkled face.
Kakashi's eyes showed a hint of urgency as he asked directly, "Is the Hokage looking for me because of that matter...?"
