Chapter 69 The True Power of Dark Magic
Chapter 69 The True Power of Dark Magic
Thor gripped the handle of Mjolnir: "You summoned me here, told me the timeline was collapsing, told me you were using dark magic, and now you're telling me Fury's affairs have nothing to do with me?"
"We didn't invite you," the Holy Lord corrected. "The people the Little King wanted to invite were Wanda and me, but you barged in on your own."
Thor opened his mouth, but didn't utter a single word.
Wang sighed: "Thor, Fury's matter is in the past, and knowing too much about some things is not necessarily a good thing."
"That's what Earthlings call it," Thor sneered. "In Asgard, we call it concealment."
The Holy Lord chuckled dismissively at Thor's words, his superior authority radiating from him: "In the eyes of those in power, this is called a necessary decision. Odin concealed your sister's existence, concealed your family's bloody history of expansion, so why don't you go smash his throne?"
Thor's expression froze for a moment. How could this person, whose demeanor had suddenly changed, know about his affairs?
"How do you know Hela? How do you know about our family?" Thor's voice turned cold.
"I know a lot of things."
The Holy Lord spread his hands, looking confident, while Wanda looked at him with admiration from behind: "It's the same with Fury's matter. You don't know, not because we don't want to tell you, but because there's no need."
The Holy Lord turned his gaze to Thor's hammer at his waist and chuckled, "How's that hammer? Does it feel different from before?"
Thor instinctively tightened his grip on the hammer handle: "What are you talking about?"
The Holy Lord raised his finger and pointed to an inconspicuous stone at the junction of the hammer handle and the hammerhead: "That thing, you embedded it in Thor's hammer."
Thor's pupils contracted slightly.
That was a change he made before leaving Asgard. His father, Odin, personally incorporated the stone into the hammer, saying it was a fragment of an artifact that had drifted from another world and possessed the ability to enhance his power, allowing him to better protect the Nine Realms.
But this matter should only be known to Odin and him; no one else could possibly know the secret of this stone.
"How do you know about this stone?"
Thor's voice held a hint of murderous intent: "This is an Asgardian secret."
"Asgardian secrets?"
The Holy Lord chuckled and nodded. This time, he didn't open his mouth, but instead used the Mind Stone to make his voice resonate in Thor's mind: "You call it a fragment of an artifact. It seems you are quite interested in my power."
Thor frowned. What did he mean by "this is his ability"?
The Holy Lord's voice continued to echo in Thor's mind, carrying a hint of seductive power: "My power, is it effective?"
"That's impossible."
Thor shook his head, staring at the smiling man before him: "Father never mentioned such a thing."
"There are many things your father doesn't know."
The majesty emanating from the Holy Lord spread through Thor's heart, a feeling Thor had never experienced with Odin: "He thought it was just a simple power amplifier, right? Its true name is a talisman, and as the owner of the talisman, I naturally understand it better than Odin."
Thor suddenly felt a lump in his throat. He remembered the solemn expression on Odin's face when he handed him the fragments of the artifact, and he also remembered Odin's advice.
"The power of this item is beyond Asgard's comprehension; use it with caution."
Thor had considered that he would be devoured by this power and not be recognized by the artifact fragments, but he never imagined that he would meet the master of the artifact fragments.
"You can see things about Asgard through the artifact fragments," Thor said coldly. This was the only reason he could think of for the Holy Lord to know about Asgard.
The Holy Lord hadn't expected Thor to interpret things this way. He smiled and didn't deny it, saying that only the Observer knew that he had traveled from another time.
Wang stood aside with a complicated expression. He looked at the Holy Lord with a hint of wariness in his eyes. This person knew too much.
Mordo stood quietly in the corner, dark energy slowly flowing between his fingertips, his gaze shifting back and forth between the Holy Lord and Thor.
Wanda looked at Shendu with adoration, and she could feel the composure and control emanating from him.
"What do you want to do?" Thor sighed.
The Holy Lord spread his hands: "You're the one who barged in. I was just answering your question."
A sense of powerlessness washed over Thor. He looked around, and everyone present told him the same thing: the Earth had changed, becoming far more complex than when he left.
"I need to see the Ancient One," Thor finally said.
Wang shook his head: "The Ancient One is not here right now."
Where is she?
"At the edge of the dark dimension."
Wang didn't hide anything and frankly said, "She spends most of her time there, preventing Dormammu from invading reality. You'll have to wait if you want to see her."
"How long will it take?"
"have no idea."
Thor took a deep breath: "Okay, I'll wait."
Thor's gaze fell on Mordo, and he suddenly spoke: "You said before that dark magic can be used for protection. Can you demonstrate it to me? Not that little trick like before, but real defense."
Mordo glanced at the king, who nodded slightly.
"Come with me." Mordo turned and walked towards the open space in the center of the courtyard.
Thor followed, and Wanda walked to Shendu's side and whispered, "Master, can he really be trusted?"
"Trust is unnecessary." The Holy Lord watched Thor's retreating figure, a manipulative smile playing on his lips. "He just needs to understand that the rules of this world have changed."
Wanda nodded and stopped talking, quietly following behind the Holy Lord.
On the open ground, Mordo spread his arms, and dark energy surged from his body, condensing into a huge barrier in front of him.
The barrier was not like the transparent membrane in the library, but a solid black wall with black patterns flowing across its surface, like some kind of living creature.
Thor raised Mjolnir, crackling with lightning: "I'll control my strength."
"No need," Mordo laughed. "Use your full strength."
Thor narrowed his eyes, and Mjolnir, with unstoppable force, crashed down on the black barrier.
boom!
A loud bang echoed in the courtyard, and fine cracks appeared on the ground, but the shield that Mordo summoned remained unmoved.
Thor put away his hammer and stared in shock at the perfectly intact barrier in front of him.
Mordo withdrew his dark energy, his breathing slightly rapid: "Did you notice? This isn't an ordinary shield. It's absorbing your attacks and converting them into its own energy. The harder you hit it, the stronger it becomes."
Thor fell silent again.
He had seen similar magic in Asgard, but it required extremely high magical skill and was usually only seen in legends.
Now, an Earth mage, an Earth mage who has only recently come into contact with dark magic, has actually managed to do this.
"This is the true power of dark magic," the Holy Lord said from the side. "It's not destruction, but transformation. It can turn the enemy's strongest attack into your own strongest defense. The more you try to destroy it, the stronger it becomes."
