Chapter 99 Loki's Merit
Chapter 99 Loki's Merit
"You..." Malekith stared wide-eyed at Loki.
Loki's smile vanished, replaced by an icy chill: "You think I'd really cooperate with you?"
Loki released his grip and took a step back: "You're too naive."
Malekith tried to resist, but the force invading his consciousness was too powerful. His body trembled uncontrollably, and black energy surged out of his body, making him weak.
"What is this..." Malekith managed to utter a few words with difficulty.
The Holy Lord's voice came from the other end of the corridor: "The power of the Mind Stone, otherwise why do you think I didn't stop Loki?"
Malekith turned to look at the Holy Lord, his eyes swirling with shock and anger: "You...you all..."
The Holy Lord walked up to Malekith and stared into his eyes: "Loki does indeed hate Odin, and he also craves the throne, but he knows very well who he can cooperate with to achieve his goal."
Malekith, panting heavily, said, "You think you can defeat me like this? Don't forget, the Aether is still inside that woman. As long as I..."
"What do you want?" the Holy Lord interrupted him. "You can't even move right now, so what makes you think you can get the Aether?"
Malekith roared, "You know very well the power of the Aether, and you certainly won't let it go. But don't forget, in this universe, only I have the means to extract the Aether."
The Holy Lord raised his hand, and the energy of the Mind Stone rippled in his palm, enveloping Malekith entirely.
"Who says you're the only one who knows this?" the Holy Lord whispered. "Let me see the secrets of the Dark Elves."
Malekith's consciousness was powerless against the power of the Mind Stone, and his memories unfolded before the Lord.
A few minutes later, the Holy Lord withdrew his power, and Malekith collapsed helplessly to the ground, panting heavily, his eyes filled with fear.
"What...what did you do?"
The Holy Lord said calmly, "Your memories, plans, weaknesses, everything you know is no longer a secret to me."
Malekith closed his eyes, his body trembling uncontrollably. He had lost, and lost utterly.
Inside the treasure vault, Jane sat in a corner, arms crossed, her face deathly pale.
Wanda stood at the entrance to the secret chamber, her eyes shrouded in chaotic magic as she vigilantly sensed everything around her.
Thor stood beside Jane, putting a hand on her shoulder to try and comfort her: "Jane, it's alright. The Holy Lord is outside; he won't let Malekith in."
Jane looked up at Thor, tears welling in her eyes: "Thor, tell me the truth, that thing inside me... the Aether... will it hurt me?"
After a moment of silence, Thor lowered his head and said, "I don't know."
Jane's tears welled up again.
Saul gripped her hand tightly: "Jane, I can assure you, no matter what happens, I will protect you."
Jane nodded at Saul's sincere expression and leaned on his shoulder.
The doors to the treasury opened, and the Holy Lord entered the secret chamber. Wanda immediately went to greet him.
"Master... Ah, the technology..."
The Holy Lord said calmly, "I'm leaving for now."
Saul stood up: "You let him go?"
The Holy Lord did not hide anything: "Yes."
Thor asked, puzzled, "Why? He's our enemy! You should kill him!"
The Holy Lord walked up to Jane, squatted down, and stared into Jane's eyes: "Killing him won't solve the problem. As long as the Aether Particles are still around, there will be another Malekith."
Jane's body trembled slightly; she gleaned another message from the Holy Lord's words: "You can retrieve it?"
After a moment of silence, the Holy Lord nodded: "Yes, but not now."
Why?
The Holy Lord turned to look outside the secret chamber: "The power of the ether particles has not yet fully stabilized, so it is not safe to take them out now."
Thor walked to the Holy Lord's side and asked again, "Can you really take it out?"
The Holy Lord glanced at Thor: "You don't believe me?"
Thor paused for a moment, then shook his head: "No, I believe you."
The Holy Lord nodded and said nothing more.
Wanda walked to Shendu's side and whispered, "Master, Loki is missing."
The Holy Lord frowned slightly, and the power of the Mind Stone spread throughout Asgard. He sensed Loki's location; Loki was heading towards the Golden Palace at great speed.
"What is he doing?" Wanda asked.
The Holy Lord was silent for a moment, then a slight smile appeared on his lips: "Interesting."
"Owner?"
"Loki went to see Odin." Shendu's voice carried a hint of amusement. "It seems he wants to take this opportunity to curry favor with Odin."
Wanda frowned. "Will he tell Odin about what happened to you?"
The Holy Lord shook his head: "No, he won't reveal the deal between us, but he will tell Odin that he drove Malekith away."
"Why?" Wanda was furious at Odin for stealing the credit from the Holy Lord.
The Holy Lord walked to the front of the treasury and looked out at the sky: "This is his chance to gain Odin's trust. Loki longs for Odin's approval and to become the rightful heir to Asgard. Today's battle is his best chance to prove himself."
A hint of disdain flashed in Wanda's eyes: "Hypocrisy."
The Holy Lord turned around and patted Wanda's head to soothe her anger: "Hypocrisy is in his nature, but it's to our advantage. The more trust Loki gains in Odin's eyes, the higher his status in Asgard, and the more he can help us."
Wanda lowered her head, blushing as she felt the Holy Lord's touch: "Master, you are truly virtuous."
Inside the Golden Palace, the battle was nearing its end. The Dark Elf ships began their retreat, and the remaining Dark Elf warriors were also suffering defeat after defeat. The Asgardian warriors, with high morale, fought their way to the outskirts of the Golden Palace.
Odin stood at the entrance to the palace, the Spear of Eternity gleaming subdued in his hand, his single eye sweeping across the battlefield, his face expressionless.
"Father."
Loki's voice came from behind. Odin turned around and saw Loki walking down the corridor, his armor stained with black blood and his dagger dripping blood.
"Loki?" Odin's voice held a hint of surprise. "Shouldn't you be in the vault right now?"
Loki walked up to Odin and knelt on one knee: "Malekith came in person, but I have already repelled him."
Odin narrowed his eyes slightly: "You?"
"Yes." Loki raised his head, his eyes shining with sincerity. "He wanted to break into the vault to steal the artifact fragments and the Aether particles, but I stopped him."
Odin fell silent, his gaze sweeping over Loki from head to toe. "Are you alone?"
“And the guards,” Loki replied, “but Malekith’s target is me; I’m the one fighting him.”
Odin did not respond. He knew Loki was lying, but he had no evidence and could not expose Loki.
"Get up," Odin said calmly.
