Chapter 523 Muggles and the Confusion Curse
It's snowing again.
In just one night, the snow on the ground reached about a foot deep, enough to sink your entire ankle when you step on it.
Sirius Black apparently spent the whole night drinking with Lupin, Moody, and the others at the Leaky Cauldron, only staggering back to the Burrow the next morning.
During lunch, he invited Harry to visit number twelve Grimmauld Place.
"Although I don't really like it there, it is, after all, the Black family's old house—and it can be your home in the future. I mean, if you've had enough of living with your aunt and uncle and want a change of scenery, you'd be willing to move in and live with me."
"Are you kidding me!" Harry jumped to his feet and shouted, "Of course I'd like to! You have no idea how much I want to leave the Dursleys!"
Harry was so excited; he dreamed of leaving the Dursleys, anywhere would be. Last year's holidays were the most likely opportunity, but Sirius had something come up and ultimately couldn't come to King's Cross Station to pick him up as promised.
After learning about this, Harry was unhappy for the entire holiday.
"The Black family's old house, huh? That must be several hundred years old—" Fred asked curiously, "Can we come along and take a look?"
"Of course, no problem," Sirius said. "If I hadn't received the letter from Molly earlier, I would have invited you all to come and visit during this holiday season."
"Great!" Ron said happily.
Everyone was actually quite interested in the old house of a pure-blooded family, but they were just too embarrassed to bring it up.
After all, Sirius invited Harry; what if they had something important to discuss?
But now that Fred has taken the initiative to suggest it, and Sirius has agreed, everyone is happy to go along and broaden their horizons.
After discussing it, everyone except Mr. Weasley, who had to go to work, Mrs. Weasley, who stayed behind to look after the house and prepare dinner, and Percy, who wasn't interested in any of this, decided to go with them.
While everyone was discussing these things, Percy was still reading. It was hard for Siron to say whether his decision was right or wrong, but his desire to return to the Ministry of Magic was not so easy.
After the Barty Crouch incident, Fudge and Dumbledore almost completely broke off relations, and the Weasleys were staunch Dumbledore supporters. Fudge was naturally unwilling to let Percy, a potential opponent, return to work at the Ministry of Magic so easily.
But I heard that Mr. Weasley has already been arguing his case. Percy's arrest was an undeserved disaster. The Ministry of Magic and the Aurors have been searching for him for more than half a year, but they have not found any evidence to prove that he betrayed the Ministry of Magic.
With the help of other Dumbledore faction members within the Ministry of Magic, Percy still has a good chance of returning to work.
After lunch, they set off. After being persuaded by Fred, George, and Ginny, Mrs. Weasley also decided to go.
Because there were quite a few people, they decided to go by car. However, since Mr. Weasley had to go to work, the task of driving fell to Sirius Black.
"You should be fine, right?" Mr. Weasley asked as he handed the keys back to Sirius.
"Do you really think I'd lead them astray and get lost in the streets of London?" Sirius joked.
But Siren soon realized that this was not a joke.
Not only did they get lost, but Sirius Black drove the car like a madman, recklessly ramming into things on the road, with horns blaring constantly around them.
Moreover, on a side road, Sirius almost drove his car into someone's house. A middle-aged Muggle who was mowing the lawn in the garden was furious and stormed over.
"Damn it, did you buy your driver's license?" He brandished the scissors in his hand and forcefully pulled open the car door, seemingly wanting to teach Sirius a lesson.
Then he saw all eleven people in the car turn their heads to look at him at the same time.
Wait a minute—eleven people?
It took about two hours after leaving the Burial Grounds for the car to finally stop.
Mrs. Weasley was the first to escape from inside. She looked at Sirius, her face deathly pale. Sheren could tell she was filled with resentment towards Sirius, but she remained mostly silent.
At that moment, the driver's side door opened, and a middle-aged Muggle wearing a casual T-shirt stepped out and warmly shook hands with Sirius.
"Well then, see you next time, my dear friend," he said happily. "If you need any help at all, please let me know."
"Of course," Sirius said, then waved his wand.
"Forget everything, and all is emptiness!"
The Muggle's gaze immediately wandered, and his face showed a dazed and indifferent expression.
"Strange, how did I get here?" He scratched his head and quickly walked toward the street on the left.
Only then did Weasley finally speak: "You shouldn't have done that, Sirius. He's just a Muggle."
"I know Molly, I know," Sirius said as he stepped out of the car. "But he saw us. When he rudely opened the car door, he saw eleven people inside. There shouldn't be that many people in a normal Muggle car, right?"
"Even if I don't use the Oblivion Charm on him, the people from the Reversal of Accidents team will do the same. They're much cruder than I am."
"You know that's not what I meant," Mrs. Weasley frowned. "I meant the Confusion Charm, and you could have used the Oblivion Charm while he was opening the car door."
Sirius laughed awkwardly twice.
In fact, the reason they were able to get here so quickly was because Sirius Black used a Confusion Charm on the Muggle, making him mistakenly believe that he and Sirius Black were friends and that Sirius Black had helped drive the car over.
This was also what Mrs. Weasley was most dissatisfied with, but Sirius was too fast and completed the spell in an instant. She didn't have time to stop him at all. By the time she came to her senses, the man was already happily sitting in the driver's seat.
"Consider this punishment for his rudeness—" Sirius said. "You heard it yourself, what he said was really infuriating."
"I know, but we're not Death Eaters, and we can't treat Muggles this way," Mrs. Weasley said sternly. "Besides, we were in the wrong first; we should apologize, not be punished!"
"Alright, Molly, I've realized my mistake." Sirius quickly begged for forgiveness, "I swear I won't do it again—Merlin's beard, how on earth does Arthur drive this thing so steadily?"
