Chapter 5 Trust
Chapter 5 Trust
Huo Yuhao was strolling along the bustling streets of Tiandou City.
In his mind, however, he was already planning how to persuade his mother to stay at home and rest when he got back, and not to go out and work anymore.
After much thought, Huo Yuhao decided to first go to the pharmacy to get some medicinal herbs to replenish qi and blood and strengthen the body's foundation.
Firstly, it would help to better care for her mother's health, and secondly, it would also temporarily dissuade her from the idea of going out to find a job.
With that in mind, Huo Yuhao asked passersby for directions to the largest pharmacy in Tiandou City.
After determining the direction, I headed straight for the pharmacy.
As I walked near the clinic, I inadvertently glimpsed the scene inside through a window.
I saw Jiang Nannan; she was standing there with a look of anxiety on her face.
Opposite her stood a boy he didn't recognize.
Upon seeing this, Huo Yuhao's expression shifted slightly, as if he were deep in thought.
Inside the clinic.
"Chen Wen, is what you're saying true?"
Jiang Nannan's voice trembled slightly, but more than that, it revealed an undisguised urgency.
"Do you really have a way to save my mother?"
Chen Wen looked at the girl in front of him, whose simple clothes could not hide her pure and refined beauty.
He secretly praised his young master's good judgment, and it was worth it for him to ask Uncle Xu Sheng for the Xuanwu Divine Pill in exchange.
Otherwise, it would be truly difficult to accomplish this "wonderful thing" for the second young master.
"Of course, would I, Chen Wen, lie to you?"
Chen Wen smiled broadly, his tone tinged with smugness.
"As long as you agree to sell yourself to our sect, we will not only give you a large sum of gold soul coins as compensation, but also give you a Xuanwu Divine Pill that is unique to our sect."
He paused, then continued:
"As you know, the Xuanwu Divine Pill is a treasure that only our Xuanming Sect possesses; it is not available to the outside world at all."
"And your mother's heart condition is so severe; without the power of the Xuanwu Divine Pill, she probably wouldn't have survived."
Upon hearing this, Jiang Nannan's face instantly turned as pale as paper.
As a resident of Tiandou City, she had naturally heard of the Xuanwu Divine Pill of the Xuanming Sect, and had also heard rumors that the Xuanming Sect was secretly searching for beautiful and innocent young girls.
But when she thought of what the doctor had told her earlier—that her mother's condition was very serious and that she probably didn't have much time left—Jiang Nannan felt a pang of sadness.
What difference would it make if she sold herself to the Xuanming Sect so that her mother could survive?
Seeing that Jiang Nannan seemed to be wavering, Chen Wen was secretly delighted.
He used to be Xu Sanshi's personal page. Because his family had served the Xuanming Sect for at least five generations, even though he didn't have any accompanying soul power after awakening his martial soul, his status in the sect was still quite high.
However, ever since Xu Sanshi improved his cultivation and entered Shrek Academy, the contact between the two gradually decreased.
That's why he took the initiative to find Xu Sheng and accepted the job.
All this was to help Xu Sanshi achieve his wish and to bring the two of them closer together again.
Before Jiang Nannan could respond, Chen Wen saw a handsome young man with black hair walk in.
"Sister Nan, you encountered difficulties, why didn't you tell me?"
The boy spoke gently, with a hint of concern.
Jiang Nannan's expression changed slightly upon seeing Huo Yuhao's sudden appearance, and she subconsciously spoke:
"Yuhao, what brings you here?"
Then, as if remembering something, she quickly added:
"Yuhao, things aren't what you think."
Jiang Nannan was also unsure why she was in such a hurry to explain to Huo Yuhao.
Perhaps it was because during the few days she spent with the caravan, she saw reflections of herself and her mother in Huo Yuhao and his mother, which made her feel an inexplicable sense of closeness to Huo Yuhao.
So I didn't want him to see me in such an embarrassing and disheveled state.
Chen Wen's expression turned somewhat ugly when he saw Huo Yuhao suddenly appear out of nowhere.
If this young man hadn't suddenly appeared, Jiang Nannan probably would have already agreed to her conditions.
However, remembering Xu Sheng's instructions, he could only suppress his frustration and try to speak in a calm tone:
"Young man, you are unaware of the truth. Her mother suffers from a very serious heart disease, and apart from the Xuanwu Divine Pill I brought, there is probably no other way to cure her."
Jiang Nannan's mother is just an ordinary person without soul power. Apart from relying on the mild Xuanwu Divine Pill, it might be counterproductive to rely on a specialized healing soul master for treatment.
Most healing-type Soul Masters actually achieve their healing effects by stimulating the life force within their bodies.
Jiang Nannan's mother already lacked vitality, and if she were to undergo treatment rashly, it might actually cost her her life.
Furthermore, judging from the boy's ordinary clothes and the fact that his blue eyes were exceptionally bright, Chen Wen couldn't think of any way he could possibly get involved in this matter.
Jiang Nannan's face also darkened.
Although Huo Yuhao's grilled fish had left a very deep impression on her before, and he had also helped the drivers bandage their wounds after the caravan was attacked by soul beasts, he might know some medical knowledge.
However, she didn't think that Huo Yuhao, who was only ten years old, could possibly solve his mother's illness.
However, before Jiang Nannan could speak, Huo Yuhao stepped forward and gently took her hand.
"Sister Nan, please believe me."
Huo Yuhao's voice was not loud, but it was unusually firm.
Jiang Nannan suddenly felt an extremely pure and gentle life force coming from Huo Yuhao's hand.
This life force surged into her body, making her feel refreshed despite her previous fatigue.
Looking down into Huo Yuhao's earnest and clear eyes, she was slightly taken aback, and as if possessed, she blurted out:
"Okay, Yuhao, then Nannan will believe you."
Chen Wen was at a loss when he saw this sudden scene.
He couldn't understand why Jiang Nannan would suddenly change her mind and choose to believe a child who was only about ten years old.
Is there something wrong with Jiang Nannan's brain?
Is he playing with his own mother's life?!
He could have saved his mother's life simply by agreeing to sell himself to the Xuanming Sect.
But now, she insists on believing a child who is only ten years old?
Chen Wen took a deep breath, trying to suppress his displeasure, and said in a low voice:
"Jiang Nannan, if this young man cannot cure your mother's illness, you can come to me anytime before tonight."
Chen Wen was still unwilling to give up on Jiang Nannan easily. After all, she was the object of Xu Sanshi's pursuit at Shrek Academy, and she was probably more in line with Xu Sanshi's wishes than the other candidates in Xu Sheng's hands.
After saying this, Chen Wen turned and walked out. However, he didn't go far, but stayed in another part of the clinic, clearly still waiting for Jiang Nannan to change her mind.
