Chapter 314: Unexpected Encounters
Chapter 314: Unexpected Encounters
"Anyone would panic seeing this!"
"Yes. My reaction was not much different from Raon’s when I first saw him either."
Once Qiong Xing admitted it so easily, Raon could no longer bring himself to stay annoyed.
Afterward, the four of them played together, running around until eventually Qiong Xing grew tired first and sat down to rest.
Raon soon sat beside him as well.
"He is cute, is he not?"
"As long as his personality does not turn out exactly like that idiot’s."
Though honestly, the warning signs had already appeared the moment the child started playing with them.
If asked whether the child was cute or not, then of course he was adorable.
But admitting that out loud somehow felt like calling Iseul cute too, which embarrassed Raon enough that he could not say it honestly.
"You once said you would take care of your younger brother for me, did you not? As long as I am alive, I will continue doing my best. So in return, could I ask you to look after that child for me?"
The way Qiong Xing phrased it sounded strangely unsettling, making Raon immediately ask if something had happened, only for Qiong Xing to smile and insist it was nothing.
"I may have given birth to him, but I am still human. I cannot fully understand the struggles that child may face, or the struggles you dragons carry. That is why I want you and Iseul to support him in those ways."
"...Of course."
They could touch and meet the child here now, but in reality, it would still be some time before the egg finally hatched and they could truly see him.
And once he was born, there was no way of knowing whether he would even remember moments like this.
Still, if there was anything Raon could do for the child, then he would gladly help.
"Thank you." Raon said.
"Hm?"
It was something Raon had wanted to say for a very long time.
"Thank you for becoming Iseulnura’s mate. Thank you for giving birth to Iseulnura’s child. Thank you... for becoming family."
While their parents and companions had gradually passed away one by one, it would be a lie to say that Raon and his younger brother had felt no anxiety at all.
As the eldest son, as Iseul’s older brother, Raon had tried to stay strong and dependable.
But no matter how hard he worked, everything seemed to slip out of his hands and go wrong.
Then he met Qiong Xing.
Iseul became bonded with his mate, and on top of that, they were even blessed with a child.
There was nothing left but gratitude.
For Raon, this new yet nostalgic family made him even happier than Iseul did.
"That is us thanking you as well. You always take care of the children, after all. The other day, you even played tag with them, and Rui and Yue were really happy."
Those twins, being beastkin, had endless energy.
There was no way a human like Qiong Xing could keep up with them.
So instead, the ones dragged into it were their father Joa, Albe, and sometimes Raon.
"That child is Nura’s child."
"...Yes, that is true."
Raon tilted his head, wondering why he was stating something so obvious.
"You said he look just like Iseul, but that also means he resemble me as well. Sometimes when I watch him, I think, ah, so this is what it means to be siblings."
"..."
"Does not that make him even cuter?"
Qiong Xing laughed softly, clearly amused.
Even though Raon felt a little embarrassed, he also could not help but feel strangely happy.
...
"Ah, um!"
"Yes? ...Ah, it has been a while."
While Qiong Xing was walking through city as usual on his way to the guild, someone called out to him.
He turned around and saw the girl he had once saved from some thugs approaching him.
"Um... I really wanted to thank you for what you did for me before! Thanks to you I only ended up with minor injuries, and I wanted to thank you sooner, but..."
"It is alright. I only did what anyone would have done. I am glad to see you are well."
Qiong Xing had parted with her back then without even asking her name or anything, thinking it would be better not to get too involved in case it brought back unpleasant memories of those men.
He had wondered what happened afterward, but since Katarina and the others had not said anything, he assumed she must have been safe.
"Are you out shopping today? That is a lovely dress. It suits you very well."
"Ah... thank you very much."
The pretty yellow dress suited her perfectly, and she shyly blushed at the compliment.
However, after hearing her story, it turned out she had not come out to shop at all.
She had apparently been looking for Qiong Xing all this time, which made him worry if something else had gone wrong.
"Could it be that you are still injured somewhere? I am sorry, I thought my child had healed everything completely..."
"N-no, that is not it! My injuries were healed by that girl. It was as if I had never been hurt at all. I really wanted to thank you properly."
"I see. I am glad."
Qiong Xing felt relieved.
Still, it felt improper to keep a young lady standing there while talking, so he considered inviting her into a nearby shop.
"However, this area might not be very suitable for someone like you. What should we do..."
She was likely a noble, and taking her into an ordinary shop felt somewhat inappropriate.
Since she could not decide what to do, the girl offered to guide Qiong Xing to a café owned by someone she knew.
The building already looked like the kind of place that would be expensive, and that alone made him feel a little uneasy.
It was not about money, but about manners.
