Chapter 348 The Faceless One
Chapter 348 The Faceless One
The lakeside is indeed Lorraine's home ground.
Even though he suffered heavy losses here a few days ago, many of his minions who survived exploiting the bug still slumber at the bottom of the lake. There are still many secret passages in the trenches left behind after Dalaran flew away. Logically speaking, this place is not suitable for setting up camp, but Master Yuvel insisted that Galin set up camp here.
The rumor that there were secrets hidden in the Dalaran pits had long been circulating among the officers.
They cannot approach the core of the Dalaran crater. The Kirin Tor's remaining battle mages and guards are numerous and exist independently of the human camp, but are indirectly protected by it.
What is Master Yuvel looking for?
Lorraine didn't have time to worry about that; he was currently dealing with a difficult problem.
His own skeleton minions dug a tunnel that caught Bellamor and the traitor Ricktel. He had thought that with their numerical advantage, the two enemies would be torn to shreds by his minions without him even having to lift a finger.
Little did anyone know that Bellamor's stubborn resistance under the magic shield was secondary; the traitor Ricktel was able to take down one child at a time, eliminating the undead army that Lorraine had painstakingly summoned by exploiting a bug.
Among them are advanced units, constructs, and corpse demons created by intermediate-level vengeful spirits.
Riker seemed to have regained some of his senses after falling into the pit. He protected the human mage, holding up the Bloodstone Egg. The Bloodstone Egg had no other effects besides emitting a dazzling red light and dispelling Lorraine's minions.
To be precise, it absorbed the vengeful spirits driving the summoned minions within Lorraine.
Having lost dozens of skeletons and high-level soldiers in succession... Lorraine, distressed, stopped his underlings from encircling them, and cautiously confronted the two. He was a little anxious; the traps above his head were only simply buried.
He wasn't sure if reinforcements from the human camp would arrive soon.
"Traitor, hand over the Bloodstone Egg!"
Such a foolish request—logically, who would agree to it…? Yet Lorraine couldn't resist bluffing and trying to intimidate the other party. The traitor Rikert didn't respond; with its crimson eyes, it was impossible to tell if it was truly Rikert.
Bellamor was nearly exhausted; she seemed to have been injured in the sudden fall. Using her remaining magic to form a shield, she cried out:
"Wake up, Riktel! Don't you want to join Dalaran and become an archaeologist? Wake up! You can't give the Bloodstone Egg to it. It's a servant of the Dark Queen. If you give it to it, the world will be plunged into utter destruction..."
"It's not that exaggerated. I just want to complete a task that I have to complete. So, little human girl, I personally respect scholars. Seriously, if you give up resisting, I might take pity on you and let you two leave alive!"
After much deliberation, Lorraine decided to try a verbal attack, since resolving a battle with just words would be an incredible stroke of luck.
"My lord, announce your death."
Bellamour looked at him with disdain, clearly not believing Lorraine's words.
I was just about to continue admonishing the person I was supposed to protect.
The next second, the traitor pointed at Lorraine, and a beam of red light shot out from the Bloodstone Egg. Lorraine reacted quickly, pulling over one of his henchmen. The latter was hit by the red light and visibly melted into an indescribable puddle.
Lorraine was startled.
Holy crap, Death Finger?
Missing his first attack, the traitor Ricktel seemed to rage, his eyes flashing with several red beams. Lorraine leaped and scrambled through the narrow cave, and when there was no other way to avoid the bullets, he had to use his henchmen as shields.
Fortunately, these minions transformed from vengeful spirits were quite obedient. Lorraine watched as they all dissolved instantly, even the vengeful spirits infused into his right eye's rune were absorbed...
The terrifying nature of the Bloodstone Egg is evident.
Bellamor was overjoyed to have gained the upper hand. She reached out to grasp the traitor Rikert's hand, but the next second, Bellamor's expression froze. She was horrified to find that her hand was as if it were being drawn to a magnet, and all the blood on her body was visibly being absorbed by the Bloodstone Egg in Rikert's hand.
She tried to use magic to break free, but to no avail.
"More, more! I need more!"
The human mage, a quasi-magician, Bellamor, tried everything she could, even using several life-saving magical items, but in the end, she could only watch helplessly as the Bloodstone Egg drained all the blood from her body.
In the few seconds of Lorraine's astonishment, a beautiful human woman was reduced to nothing but a soft shell, with not even a trace of bone left.
Rikert was clearly not right; it had lost its senses.
After absorbing Bellamor's flesh and magic, Riktel trembled and swelled, growing to more than three times its original size. His undead appearance was completely altered. Specifically, he swelled to the size of an elephant's trunk, his facial features vanished, his face lost its eyes and nose, leaving only an octopus-tentacle-like upper body, and his hands also resembling tentacle suction cups.
"What is this thing? Where is the Bloodstone Egg?"
Lorraine was unable to defeat the enemy, but the enemy turned on each other. After the fighting, a monster appeared. The Bloodstone Egg was nowhere to be found. Upon closer inspection, it was found right in the middle of the monster's swollen forehead.
These tentacle monsters possessed immense strength; Lorraine's underlings were instantly turned into mincemeat by their tentacles the moment they got close...
Even powerful constructs or enhanced skeletons cannot withstand the tentacles' attacks.
If Lorraine's teacher were still conscious, he would surely have told him the thing's true name: the Faceless One! Unfortunately, the teacher lost contact... Legend has it that this thing is the tentacle of an ancient god, each one possessing divine power and capable of corrupting flesh and blood.
The Faceless Ones are the incarnations of ancient gods on earth; they can disguise themselves, devour, lurk, and transform...
It has no physical form and functions much like a facehugger.
Once it comes into contact with the corresponding energy, it can absorb and rebound it. For spiritual forces like souls, it treats them like food and snacks. Lorraine's necromancers are essentially nourishment for the opponent.
The opponent was originally just a bloodstone, but after absorbing more souls and flesh, it transformed into a faceless being.
The spokesperson for the ancient gods!
Lorraine had no idea that the statue-like creature she had seen in the spider cave was the tentacle monster standing before her. The being revered as a god by the Twilight Cultists had reappeared in the world.
If the mayor of Bonn and others in the jade mine by the lake were to see such a scene, they would surely weep bitterly.
Because they were so focused on summoning and sacrificing lives in exchange for the arrival of a god, they never succeeded.
The true body of an ancient god appeared before Lorraine.
What Lorraine was worried about was that if the Bloodstone Egg turned into a lump of flesh, how would he explain it to the Queen of Undercity?
He had no idea that he might be killed by the Faceless One...
"Spit out my stone!"
Lorraine roared and charged at the Faceless One, grabbing the boiler mixer. He really wanted to pry the Bloodstone Egg off its forehead. Little did he realize that his fragile body might also turn into a pile of mud.
