Chapter 138: Back At Home
Chapter 138: Back At Home
Allison and Bella watched as they rectified the error with the pit, what happened the day before couldn’t happen again.
Bella looked around and she noticed that the eyes that gazed upon them weren’t just curious about her build but rather they looked at Allison with suspicion.
Allison knew she couldn’t remain quiet any longer and had to spill why they were looking at her the way they did.
"I might have gone a bit overboard yesterday," Allison said with an embarrassed look and after that, she briefed Bella properly on what happened the day before.
Bella just shook her head but she was impressed that Allison put herself at risk for these people.
There was no doubt that they would have suffered more casualties if she didn’t intervene.
"I’m impressed, you’re doing good!" Bella said, slapping her across the back.
Bella’s strength nearly made her stumble into the ground but she managed to remain on her feet.
"I see you have gotten your strength back," Allison said with a scoff and Bella giggled.
Allison hated Bella a lot less than she did earlier because she was beginning to understand just why Bella was the way she was.
She noticed that the man who oversaw the clearing of the pits was nowhere in sight.
Allison wondered where he went but it wasn’t important considering his knowledge of the zombies was severely limited as to what they could do as well.
Did they even know that the virus affected animals?
"Allison..." A voice called and both the girls turned around to see a scrawny-looking individual,
"Mrs Mariam wishes to see you," The person said, the girls were surprised by his state.
He looked malnourished but that shouldn’t be a thing considering there was food for everyone, wasn’t there?
Allison walked with Bella following behind her but the boy was sure to clarify the order.
"... Just Allison..." The boy said and Bella stopped in her tracks the moment she heard this.
She had no problem because Allison was more than capable of taking care of herself and the fact that she was small and a woman would make people naturally deem her to be less of a threat.
"Are you worried about me?" Allison asked Bella and the look that crept up on Bella’s face upon hearing this, one would think she was having a stroke.
Allison shook her head with a smile before walking out of sight.
Bella stood there, smiling to herself but the gazes of those around her were beginning to bug her.
"Quickly! How could this have happened!?" A voice said and everyone rushed in a direction.
Bella raised a brow because it sounded like there was an emergency.
She noticed that everyone was rushing in that direction and assumed it was an attack but judging by the fact that they had little to no weapons on them, it couldn’t be.
Bella knew the best course of action would be to ask someone and she did just that.
Grabbing a runner by the arm, stopping them in their tracks before asking.
"What’s going on!?" Bella asked and the man yanked his arm from her grasp.
"It is the boss! He’s been attacked!" The man said and this surprised Bella.
What the hell did he mean by the boss is dead? Bella knew that Allison couldn’t have anything to do with it but this would definitely throw suspicion their way.
The fact that this only happened when they arrived might throw the public’s opinion against them.
"Fuck! This is bad!" Bella muttered to herself.

Allison found herself in Mariam’s office but today felt different, there were a lot more people in the office than on her previous visit.
It was like the security had been amped up and Mariam wasn’t even in the office.
They all had their eyes fixed on her and this made Allison paranoid even though she knew she had to keep her cool.
The door soon opened and in came Mariam, if Allison wasn’t straight she would have been all over that.
Mariam had on a black dress that hugged her body, revealing all her curves but the fact that she was close to forty made this all the more impressive considering she had a kid as well.
But Allison knew the tension was a lot more serious than it was previously.
"I’m sorry I am late..." Mariam apologized and Allison felt her body relax the moment she heard this.
The fact that she relaxed the moment Mariam apologized said a lot because, unlike the people in the room, she felt no hostility from Mariam.
"It’s fine, why did you want me here?" Allison asked, trying to get straight to the point because she didn’t want to beat around the bush.
Mariam just stared at her and the aura around the authoritative woman changed.
Allison was back on guard but there was nothing much that she could do.
If they wanted her dead, she would be dead, there was no way she would make it out of this alive if they intended to take her life.
"Allison, you don’t need to be on guard. I just wanted to commend you on your bravery yesterday," Mariam praised her but the look in her eyes wasn’t the same as when she spoke to Jason. There was something far more suspicious within her gaze.
"Ah, there is no need for you to thank me, I was just doing my job," Allison said but there was no reason for the men to be so on guard if this was the case.
"Bring him in," Mariam instructed and this was where Allison knew whatever this was, this would be the defining moment.
The man walked in and the moment her eyes rested on him, her pupils dilated.
"This is why you’re here, Allison. That man, he claims to know you, he says you’re among the Specters," Mariam said bluntly.
Allison knew she had to choose her words carefully, this man was one of the people she had encountered outside their camp.
The man managed to escape but never in her wildest dream would she have thought that he would end up here.
"Hahaha! Is this some sort of joke?" Allison asked with an awkward smile.
"She’s the one," The man said and Allison was still trying to play coy.
She knew if she admitted it, it was all over so there was no other way than to deny it until she had no other choice.
"Her tattoo..." The man said and that was when Mariam looked at Allison.
"Do you mind if we confirm it? It is with utmost importance that we don’t let anyone as dangerous as that slip in..." Mariam was formal and polite.
Allison rolled her eyes, she was worried that this was going to escalate but she had to use her brain to wriggle out of this situation.
"Can they leave? It is beneath my clothes..." Allison said, using her gender to her advantage.
Mariam knew that she would be putting herself at risk if she complied with her request seeing as she was the only lady in that room.
She nodded, granting Allison her request as the men walked out, including the one that had reported her.
Mariam had all the information she needed but Mariam was excellent at reading people.
She knew that Allison knew him, she had momentarily flinched and that gave her away.
"You know him, don’t you?" Mariam asked her and Allison knew there was no point in lying.
She wanted a fresh start and she could only deceive them for so long.
She took a deep breath before saying.
"I hate to admit it but everything he says is true..." Allison confessed.
"I’m a Specter... No, I was a Specter," Allison said.
"Allison, did you think a woman of my stature wouldn’t know when makeup is used? I know who you are even before you stepped foot inside these walls," Mariam said and Allison was surprised.
If this was the case then it meant that Mariam allowed her in so what was this parade that was going on?
"How did you know..." Allison asked.
"I made it my duty to know all the Specters and I will need your strength. I would rather have a Specter as an ally than an enemy," Mariam said before walking towards her.
Allison didn’t know why she was approaching her but she was.
Mariam raised Allison’s head by placing her fingers beneath her chin.
"I think we can help each other," Mariam said to which Allison gulped because what was this tension?
However, someone soon barged into the room, he was breathing heavily and whatever news he had was important.
"What is it? Can’t you see I’m with a guest?" Mariam asked but the man didn’t care about this because they had bigger things going on.
"The wall commander! He’s been attacked!" The man blurted out and Allison instinctively knew that she would be the prime suspect.
