Chapter 224: A Mysterious Man Appears!?
Chapter 224: A Mysterious Man Appears!?
Sanders and his men were trapped, being taken out by some unseen force; they had lost almost all their men to this threat.
The Colonel realized that he had been trapped inside, the barricade he had broken through was put back up, and he realized that there was a door.
The door was hidden behind the growing mold and instead, the path was blocked by items.
"Colonel, we need to get out of here," One of his men said, scared about what was going to happen if they were trapped here.
The Colonel would have loved nothing more than to exit this place but he realized that things wouldn’t be so easy.
Strange noises could be heard from behind them, it was like the pipes in the wall were coming to life but that wasn’t the case, something a lot worse was about to happen.
Sanders now understood why the water in here was higher than out there, they were about to be drowned.
The Colonel had no idea who this was but he knew that this person had played them well.
"Colonel?" A soldier called out upon seeing his superior grin to which Sanders quickly adjusted the look on his face.
They found themselves in a desperate situation and Sanders was impressed by this neat little trap but he also recognized the walkie-talkie make, it was a standard military issue.
The water began filling up the room and the men began to panic except Sander, Sanders didn’t make a move and just stood.
It was like he was resigned to his fate but the panicking of his men resulted in them shooting at the door but the old door didn’t bulge.
"It is useless," Sander muttered.
"Whoever put us here, made sure we wouldn’t be able to get out no matter what," Sanders blurted out but what if this was just a game?
What if they expected them to find a way out of this situation?
That was certainly a possibility and Sanders knew he had to think fast because the water was rising rapidly.
He inspected the door and realized that it had just been installed there, the rot was due to it coming in constant contact with water.
"Search this place, there must be a key somewhere," Sanders instructed his men but where should they even begin to look?
"What are you talking about Colonel?" A soldier barked and Sanders knew he was losing them.
"There is a keyhole here, find a key or something to pick it," Sanders calmly instructed.
The pick made a lot more sense than finding a key and his men began to search for the ground and walls for any metal.
Sanders knew that someone was standing right behind this door, waiting for them to drown.
He understood why the stench here was so bad, they weren’t the only ones to fall for this trap.
"Colonel!" A soldier shouted, bringing up an item small enough to fit through.
The soldiers had hopeful looks on their faces, they were running out of time and if they were going to get out of this, this was the only way.
Sanders was handed the makeshift pick and he got to work, he tried his best to undo the lock but to no avail.
The item he was given was too frail, it broke inside after a few seconds of trying to get the door open and with it broken, there was no way to fit another inside due to the broken piece within.
The water had risen to their waist, there was nothing that could be done.
The soldiers resigned to their fate but Sanders wasn’t about to give up.
He struggled to move through the water and his men were wondering where he was going.
Sanders knew he had to do something and he was trying to find the source of the leakage.
"This... It wasn’t always here," Sanders blurted out, the connection was abrupt and someone had intentionally altered it to make it serve this purpose.
But there was a chance, he called on his men to come towards him but they had to take off their clothes the moment they got there.
There was a hole and with enough clothes, they should be able to cut it off at the source and buy time for themselves.
This wasn’t a place he planned to die and luckily for them, they had enough clothes to clog the hole.
The soldiers began to jubilate, they were glad that they had survived this hurdle but Sanders realized only after that they had just made the greatest mistake.
The pipes didn’t just run through the walls but the ground beneath them as well.
However, the leakage from the ground was concealed due to the water already present when they entered.
"Fuck!" Sanders blurted out as the pipe below blew open and the place was flooded in a matter of seconds, everyone was consumed by the unforgiving current.
He saw his men lose consciousness but the only reason he remained conscious was because he used the proper breathing method for such situations.
Sanders had one final play, he opened the grenade on him. Luckily he wasn’t among those that had to strip even though they removed the valuables before doing so.
Sanders threw the grenade, swimming away from the door and the concussive force of the grenade was enough to blow the door open and the water reduced.
Sanders was the only one conscious as he came to a halt at the feet of an individual but he couldn’t make out his face due to the concussive force in which he slammed his head.
"W-Who are you?" Sanders muttered and before him was the man who looked like a homeless man, his beard was unkempt full and his hair messy but there was no doubt from those eye colours.
"Who am I?" The voice questioned, placing a foot on the man’s neck and a gun pointed right at him.
"I thought I killed you all..." The man blurted out, pausing with his gun cocked. This mysterious man was revealed to be Sam.
