Chapter 248: Bella’s Journey...
Chapter 248: Bella’s Journey...
Bella had travelled and she didn’t inform anyone that she would be going as she knew that if she told even a single person then Allison would find out about her absence.
She couldn’t risk it and she would rather be seen as a traitor than let harm come to the people she had grown to love.
It was a risky situation because she didn’t know how she would be received but she wasn’t scared as she had made up her mind that this was something that she had to do.
She knew she didn’t have the luxury to be afraid, this was something she had to do and if fear was the one thing that was going to keep her away then there was no point in going.
The journey wasn’t an easy one, she had to scale through a few obstacles but thanks to the knowledge she had about zombie guts, zombies were the least of her problems.
She didn’t take the shorter route because there was a chance that Allison had people stationed there and she couldn’t risk being seen.
She took the longer route and this forced her to sleep out in the open, she hadn’t arrived because she was travelling by foot.
Morning came and she was relieved that she had made it through the night; she had forgotten what it was like to be alone and this was a constant reminder of how lucky she was to have people she could call family.
She was making progress, walking at a slow and steady pace towards her destination.
She couldn’t let down her guard but she had enough food to last her a couple of days.
This was why she wasn’t in a hurry even though she didn’t know what kind of deal they had in place with Allison or if it was even a hostile one but she owed it to herself to find out.
Their leader has always been a reasonable man and she knew without a doubt that he would give her a listening ear but she had to get past the others for this to happen.
And the chances that she would, after her betrayal, were slim.
She knew the camp like the back of her hand but after the last incident, there was no doubt that changes would be made because the camp nearly fell.
The only reason it stood was because of the Specters and the type of zombies that they were up against but she was impressed by how they slotted Allison within their ranks.
It was almost like she was the requirement for this move to be considered because none of this would have happened if they hadn’t come back for her.
Their coming back gave their leader an accurate measure of the kind of people that they were hence allowing him to exploit their weakness.
Bella knew she had caught the "Jason fever" because Allison had her fooled, this wouldn’t have been possible if she didn’t adopt the philosophy that there was good in everyone.
Allison’s actions felt genuine, there was no way someone was that good of an actor but Bella was taken out of her head when something caught her attention.
There was a zombie pinned to a tree in the form of a crucifix, it had been there for quite some time as its flesh had already merged with the tree trunk.
The zombie had a cross across its forehead.
"What the..." Bella thought to herself but this also told her that she needed to leave this area as soon as possible because there was no telling what awaited her.
She had her body to thank for the stamina she displayed, she hurried in her steps and a few more hours, was within sight of her destination.
She wondered about Sam now and then, he was a frightful individual but she was glad that he wasn’t with them.
The fact that Sam couldn’t be controlled, there was a 100% chance that Allison would have been killed if he found out that she posed a threat.
And this would in turn have consequences because there was no way Mariam would let such an act go unpunished.
"I’m getting close," Bella thought before taking a break once again because she couldn’t enter there exhausted as she didn’t know what awaited her there.
-
Mariam was in her office, she had sorted out the files that sat on her desk, but there was nothing else to do.
The silence was peaceful, she hadn’t seen her son yet but this was a big step in him finding his path.
Mariam was glad that he was surrounded by people that could protect him but she wondered what the hell happened to Dimitris.
If Dimitris and Glenn were hurt then there was no doubt that this was a difficult mission.
Dimitris didn’t give her the details but she knew this was his way of protecting her from worrying.
She knew her son was safe and she couldn’t help but assume the reason Carl was safe had to do with the injuries that these two men sustained.
A knock was heard on her door and she sighed, she wasn’t in the mood for company but she had no choice.
"Come in!" Mariam instructed; she wasn’t heavily protected as she was slowly easing herself past the traumatic experience that she had encountered even though she had people stationed around her home 24/7.
Mariam’s body language immediately shifted the moment she saw who it was.
It was Carl and the look she saw in his eyes told her instantly that this was no longer her little boy.
He had matured because he now had the look of a protector and he had come to tell his mother all that had happened during his time away not because he had to but because he wished to get it off his chest.
He needed to let it out and his mother was the comfort zone that he had grown to know.
