Chapter 255: Development...
Sam and Sanders found a safe place to rest, Sam didn’t say anything to him but Sanders was content just following him. He knew that as long as Sam didn’t acknowledge him as a threat then he should be fine even though Sam wasn’t waiting for him to catch up.
He watched Sam carefully like a tourist observing an animal, he was amazed that Sam survived this long alone despite the level of zombies he had fought.
Sam was a rare specimen and one that even the military had tried to keep secret when he should have been executed or imprisoned long ago for his ’war crimes’.
These weren’t the regular zombies and the fact that it was strong enough to harm Sam was amazing.
Sam was resting against a tree hunk, his hand clutching the area where he was hit, it was clear that it was causing him some discomfort.
Sanders looked around to see if the coast was clear, he didn’t want to be caught off guard.
"They evolve..." Sam mumbled but this was barely audible to Sanders.
Sanders had to strain his ears to even realize that Sam had said something.
"What did you say?" Sanders questioned, this was the first time that Sam was attempting to converse with him.
But Sam didn’t say anything, Sanders noticed that his eyes were shut but he also knew that there was no way that Sam could be dead.
That was impossible but what was this uneasy feeling building up?
"... Sam?" Sanders called out but Sam remained motionless and unresponsive.
Sanders couldn’t lie to himself, killing Sam crossed his mind but he knew if he failed, there was a chance he would never find out what Sam knew.
Information is power and with information, he could know how to better handle the world in its current state.
Sanders realized that the things he had accused Sam of, the man might be innocent but it didn’t change the fact that he had butchered his men like dogs.
This was an act that wouldn’t go unpunished, Sanders’ thought was soon interrupted by the rustling leaves, it was faint but Sam’s eyes shot open.
Sanders was impressed because he thought that Sam was asleep or was he simply that alert?
"I will check it out," Sanders said before cautiously walking towards the direction where the sound came from.
It was a couple of meters away from Sam and this meant he would momentarily lose sight of the man.
But it was Sam, there was nothing that could kill him because Sam just knew how to survive.
That was the one thing that he had mastered.
Sanders watched his steps and suddenly opened to bushes but he didn’t see anything.
At least nothing threatening as all he saw was a rabbit.
He heaved a sigh of relief, he was glad that it wasn’t a zombie but he also couldn’t recall the last time he saw any livestock.
Sanders knew that this would prove to be quite the meal should he catch it but the moment the rabbit made eye contact with him.
It took to its heel, Sanders thought about bringing out his gun to gun it down but he knew that this would only draw unwanted attention towards them.
He had to cut his losses and move on, Sanders returned to his previous location expecting a disappointing look from Sam once he told him.
"You wouldn’t believe what I just...!" Sanders was cut short by what his eyes saw, or would it be more accurate to say what he didn’t see?
Sam was nowhere to be seen but there was no sign of struggle, it should be impossible for Sam to move that fast.
Sanders didn’t find any trace of movement, Sam was nowhere to be found, it was like he had vanished into thin air.
"What the fuck..!?" Sanders exclaimed, there was no way that Sam could have run away that fast, he didn’t have any reason to.
Sanders took a deep breath and knew he had to think rationally, if Sam didn’t run then the next possible scenario was that he was taken.
But who could take Sam, that was the big question.

Clementine found out that Sam was not only alive but her identity as a soldier had been exposed.
She couldn’t maintain her disguise for long but that was to be expected because she wasn’t subtle about her presence and had attracted quite the attention.
Now this man, whose name she didn’t even know, had her in a grip but she now had the lead she had been chasing for months.
This was worth the risk, she knew what needed to be done.
Clementine had been given one condition in their offering to help her find Sam and that was joining their ranks.
There was no doubt she was a formidable soldier to have survived this long and this was his way to strengthen the military.
Clementine didn’t know what was going on but anything that would lead her closer to Sam was worth settling into.
Clementine was led into another building but this was one strictly for soldiers.
This building was entirely different from the one in the warehouse, they had access to things that most would consider luxury at this time.
However, Clementine knew this was temporary, she had established that the military was still functional but she didn’t know what purpose they served.
Something told her that there was more to this bunch than meets the eye.
She couldn’t see any of the children that were being trained the day she arrived.
There was no way that they were turning kids into child soldiers but it would make sense if they did this as this would make the perfect soldiers.
Clementine wanted to know more about this place and why they were gathering people, there had to be a purpose for that.
This was the beginning of something, there was a new world to conquer and it looks like the military planned to do just that.
These people weren’t rescued, they were prisoners but of what?
