Chapter 317: The Fall Of The Community PT. 1

Chapter 317: The Fall Of The Community PT. 1

Mick had a team of seven and they went outside to battle the zombies, they had melee weapons but what was most interesting was the additional layer of clothing they all wore at the gate so they could have more resistance to a zombie’s bite.

The zombie’s teeth couldn’t penetrate this fabric as easily as they could normal clothes but Mick also permitted them to carry their guns even though he forbade anyone from firing them.

The gates opened and they rushed outside to fight the zombies but Carl knew now wasn’t the time to stand idly as he had been learning to use a bow and arrow for combat due to the potential it had.

Carl was still clumsy with it but he knew that now was the best time to use it on moving targets.

But he had to be careful as he risked hitting his people and that was the last thing he needed right now.

Carl let loose a couple of shots from his bow and even though his initial shots didn’t hit the head of the zombie but rather, the shoulders and torso.

Everyone looked at Carl but he wasn’t the one who had trained in using a bow and arrow even though a gun was more effective but this allowed for easier use.

The ammunition too was easier to replenish as all they needed was wood and bows were easy to make as well while giving them the option of long-range combat.

The pit they had dug, one could say that they had relaxed in that aspect so it didn’t keep many zombies trapped within as the others walked over them.

The fact that they kept on coming. It was a never-ending stream of zombies and at that moment, Mick realized that this just might be trouble.

But they couldn’t draw this many away because there was no telling if one of those freaks was among them and if they were.

It would only make whoever drives the car a target as they would not only be secluded from the community so help would be impossible but they would have to fend for themselves.

"We need to get back inside!" Mick instructed as they began to back up, eliminating the zombies within their immediate surroundings.

The gates were opened but this was when everyone present realized that they had just made the greatest mistake they could make in this situation.

A year ago, it was inconceivable for zombies to climb the wall and now that they have shown the ability to, the community made adjustments to their defenses to make this almost impossible.

But all defences wouldn’t matter if the gates were opened, the evolved zombies realized that humans approached the walkers differently than they did them so what would happen if they pretended to be walker-class zombies?

The humans would let down their guard because they wouldn’t take them seriously and the moment the gate opened, the zombies accelerated revealing that there were evolved mixed in.

Mick noticed this but it was too late, before he could give the command to lower the gate, something burrowed into the back of his head, exiting his forehead as his lifeless body dropped to the ground.

"Fuck! Close the fucking gate!" Carl screamed, killing the zombie that had thrown a pebble with such speed that it acted as a bullet.

This was the power of the evolved zombies, they outdid them in every physical aspect and that included speed.

The gates looked like they would make it in time but a zombie managed to grab it and pry it open despite the people within firing multiple shots.

They couldn’t get its head because it had it tilted behind the gate but these zombies were not relenting.

They managed to flood in and that was when the security let out bullets, gunshots played like a symphony.

Carl noticed the zombies that were walking towards them in the distance mere moments ago and began to run towards them as well.

They couldn’t hold the gate, they had to get out of there as soon as possible to evacuate as many people as possible.

There was a bus for evacuation to carry them out and Carl knew that this should be their utmost priority.

The fact that Mick was dead worsened the morale of the people meant to fight these things and they were firing sporadically without any aim.

The men on the wall quickly ran away but this wasn’t because they wished to evacuate the others but rather to save themselves.

"Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! Hold your ground! We need to close the gates to stop more of them from dropping in!" Carl shouted.

This was the right approach because they could close the gates, they only needed to worry about the zombies within in the meantime.

Carl noticed that a few people remained with him but he couldn’t risk their lives.

"Go and evacuate the others! I will hold them here!" Carl shouted at the others left.

This surprised them because Carl wasn’t more skilled than the average person so his staying here was suicide.

"What are you talking about!? We need to hold them off! You go!" The man screamed but Carl kissed his teeth in irritation.

"You are ordering me!? LISTEN TO YOUR ORDERS!" Carl screamed, reminding them that he was their superior even though they didn’t recognize him.

A moment of silence followed but this only made the zombies notice them.

One of the zombies rushed up, appearing behind one of the men, ready to claw his head off but Carl let loose an arrow from his bow that pierced the zombie’s head.

The men were surprised he hit the mark but there was a look in Carl’s eyes that they had never seen before.

He was not only calm but his eyes looked determined, this wasn’t him throwing away his life, Carl genuinely believed that he could do this.

At that moment, the respect that evaded him was earned in that moment.

"Don’t you dare die... Commander..." One of the men barked and Carl couldn’t help but smile as this was the first time that they had called him this.

"I don’t intend to..." Carl noticed that only a few of these evolved zombies could ’see’ and the one that had attacked just now couldn’t.

Carl noticed only one zombie was looking right at him, the others didn’t have any light in their eyes.

This was the same zombie that had opened the gates, he had to see it was closing for him to execute that action.

"You’re the one!" Carl muttered before taking something strapped to him and tossing it to the ground, a loud bang echoed followed by a flashlight in their immediate vicinity.

Carl shielded his eyes but the thing about these evolved zombies, everything about them was heightened and this meant that the flash-bang did enough to mess up their senses.

This included their hearing to which Carl let loose a few arrows aimed at the one that could see, if he could take him out, he had a decent chance at closing the gates.

He approximated the distance between the ones outside and estimated he had roughly 45 seconds before they arrived.

Carl managed to land a hit into the right eye of the zombie but it didn’t have enough power to reach the brain as the zombie managed to tilt at the last second altering the trajectory.

However, this resulted in the zombie losing both its eyes as the ocular nerve in its left eye was severed.

Carl had to act fast because not only evolved zombies managed to make it through but the walkers that they were mixed in with.

Carl quickly rolled under the corpse of the zombie he had killed before they could regain their composure. This hid his scent from the others as he sliced open the zombie from beneath it to allow its guts to spill over him.

Drenching him in the rotten flesh fluids and guts of the corpse.

"30 seconds left!" Carl muttered before slowly removing the zombie from him and just as he suspected, with no eyes, the zombies relied on not only their nose but sound.

This allowed him to blend in with the walker class zombies but would this be enough for him to complete his goal?

The chaos within the community was heard and the disorder that followed threw caution in the wind.

Mariam didn’t know what was going on but there was no way she was going to let everything she had fought for come to an end without fighting for it.

That wasn’t something she planned for but Maraim didn’t know the full extent of what was going on.

She didn’t know that they had gotten in until she stepped foot outside and saw the chaos, they were evacuating people and this only happened when the community itself was in danger of falling.

That must mean they had gotten in, one man soon appeared in front of her.

"We need to leave! They have gotten in," He said, clearly out of breath but Mariam had only one question at that moment.

"Where is my son?"
