Chapter 132 Meeting in the Cabin
Chapter 132 Meeting in the Cabin
Once on the ship, Keslan realized it wasn't so simple. His initial plan was to lead his men aboard, kill all the dim-witted pirates, rescue the two lords, and the mission would be over.
But among these pirates were high-ranking officers. The entire ship was even disguised as a warship about to set sail for a patrol.
Keslan, recalling the emperor's additional instructions, finally understood what the emperor meant when he told him that the pirate ships were of mixed origin and that he must find their lair and wipe them out in one fell swoop.
So he was trying to find a way for the pirates to contact the court. That old madman, still so stingy. Giving him only one payment and making him do so much work—what a hassle.
He summoned his men and, in the darkness, devised a strategy without making a sound. As his men silently departed, several dark figures shot out like the wind from the ship's sides and hull, disappearing from sight.
Keslan tilted his head. "Then let him keep the lovely lord company."
He pulled up the hood of his cloak, his pale face disappearing into the darkness, revealing only a pair of clear yellow eyes. His swift movements quickly searched the lower deck and found Jiang Yu, who was tied up in a stern cabin.
Jiang Yu was tied up as soon as she boarded the ship. The pirates locked her and Chen Xin in the lower decks at the bow and stern of the ship, respectively. They were given drugs as soon as they boarded the ship. Chen Xin quickly fell into a coma, but Jiang Yu saw Fan Qingyin's face in her hazy state. Qingyin's face, which was bathed in holy light, appeared in front of her and gently comforted her: Don't be afraid, Xiao Yu.
Suddenly, she regained consciousness. Unbeknownst to her, Fan Qingyin had used his own life force to forcibly transfer the lives of Madam Tini and Ren Kecheng to her. He was protecting her in his own way.
Hearing the chaotic commotion around her, she could only pretend to be unconscious due to the effects of the drug and overhear the pirates' conversation.
"My lord, are we really going to kill these two noble lords? That would be such a waste!"
"Since we didn't poison them, is there still room for maneuver? Can we keep them alive?"
"Yeah, look at that face, that body! And all of us brothers are single!"
"What's the point of keeping them? Are we just setting ourselves up for trouble? Why not use them to exchange for ransom? Just based on their backgrounds, they could be exchanged for ransom enough to live comfortably for the rest of our lives. How about we exchange them for an island?"
"..."
The pirates were talking amongst themselves when they were interrupted by a cold, sarcastic voice.
"I'm afraid you won't live to spend it!" Clearly not one of the pirates, "Isn't the money the lady gave you enough? Give up your wishful thinking. What, you want to use your lord to exchange for an island with the Empire? Aren't you afraid you'll just be setting up your own grave?"
"As for the rest," the voice paused, "the lady only said that you must make sure they are killed, without saying what the process would be like. You've gone through all that trouble, so it's only right that you get some interest."
"Yes, yes, sir, we will listen to you!" What followed was a lewd and disgusting laugh that almost made Jiang Yu vomit.
"Alright, don't make any rash moves. Quickly get the boat further away. We can only escort you out of the shallow waters before we have to go back. You should travel at full speed and deal with them when you get to your territory, to avoid any accidents."
"Get rid of the blood smell on your clothes so that no one notices anything unusual or finds out, otherwise we'll all be going to see the King of the Seven Seas!"
Then came the sound of footsteps; it must have been the owner of the voice who left after speaking.
Madam? Jiang Yu was astonished. Madam Tini was incredibly audacious, daring to collude with pirates and murder a lord right under the emperor's nose. She couldn't think of anyone other than the army that could escort pirates without being questioned. So even the army was under Madam Tini's command?
Jiang Yu suppressed her fear, trying to avoid making any noise that might attract the pirates' attention. There were still several pirates ahead of her who hadn't yet left.
"This is the most beautiful lord in the empire, the one from the Jiang family! I never dreamed that one day she would appear in front of me."
"Look at you, so ambitious! Not only will you see her, you'll have her too. So, is this trip worth it?"
"It's worth it, absolutely worth it! I'd die for it if I could just sleep with her once." The pirate said impatiently as he stepped forward and gently touched Jiang Yu's cheek.
"Oh~ this feeling, I can't stand it."
Jiang Yu screamed inwardly, "Get away from me!" Then the hand that was brazenly waving at her face was slapped away by another pirate.
"Stop acting like a madman. Once we're in a safe place, you can do whatever you want. Now, hurry up and keep watch. After the soldiers leave, we'll have to deal with the rest of the sea ourselves."
The disordered footsteps gradually faded into the distance, disappearing as the hatch closed.
Jiang Yu could hear her own heartbeat clearly in the silence. Luckily, the pirates hadn't realized she was faking fainting, otherwise she didn't know how they would have treated her.
She tentatively opened her eyes and found that the simple storeroom in front of her was filled with clutter and only a dim oil lamp was lit, which did not improve the darkness in front of her much.
Not far from her was a simple staircase made of several wooden planks leading upwards. Above that should be the exit. The planks were pressed down, so no light could see through. It seemed that this storeroom was not on the deck, but rather at a lower level of the ship.
As she was pondering, she heard a slight noise in the darkness. It suddenly dawned on her—how could she have forgotten about him?
"An?" she called out tentatively in a soft voice. A sense of relief washed over her; An was very skilled, perhaps he could rescue her and Chen Xin.
"Heh." A soft laugh came from the darkness, its tone elegant and laced with sarcasm.
Jiang Yu felt a chill run down her spine. If this wasn't An, then who was it? She stared intently at the darkness from which the sound came, on high alert.
Until a tall figure slowly emerged from the darkness, almost reaching the top of the low warehouse, he appeared to be 1.9 meters tall with broad shoulders, his entire body wrapped in a pitch-black cloak. It was hard to imagine how such a tall person could have remained completely hidden for so long without being known by anyone.
"Who are you?" Jiang Yu asked in a low voice. The person in front of her was more dangerous than the group of pirates from before combined. It seemed like he could crush her with a flick of his finger.
Keslan walked to where she could see him, pulled down his hat, revealing a pale and ghostly face. His slightly hooked nose looked deep and sharp in the shadows of the dim light. His medium-length black curly hair and jet-black cloak made him look like a messenger of the night.
A pair of bright yellow eyes that shone in the darkness reminded Jiang Yu of an owl that flies silently through the night, locking onto its prey.
Keslan stared at the beautiful lord before him with amusement. His tall figure almost completely enveloped her petite body, creating a sense of oppression.
"I'm here to kill you," he said softly, like a lover's whisper.
"Who are you looking for, that useless undercover agent?" He looked at Jiang Yu's suddenly wide-open eyes and said with a smile, "That little piece of trash didn't even get on this ship."
"Your father's eye for talent is really not very good."
