Chapter 128 Early Warning
Chapter 128 Early Warning
She walked back to Han Shu's side.
Watching Yan Yun's departing figure, Sima Yue shook her head regretfully.
He turned to look at Nan Yunjing.
"That face is exceptionally beautiful, it's a pity he's mute."
Nan Yunjing gripped the reins, then immediately withdrew his hand and gently tugged at the horse.
The horse neighed.
The little dumpling followed Yan Yun back to the carriage, still keeping its eyes fixed on Nan Yunjing.
Yan Yun looked back and saw Nan Yunjing pouring water from a leather jug into his hand and feeding it to the horse.
Han Shu looked at Yan Yun. She couldn't quite find anything rude about Yan Yun's attitude towards Sima Yue. But as for the little dumpling, Sima Yue shouldn't be the type to hold a grudge against a child.
"That troublesome girl."
Han Shu spoke to the air, and after a brief rest, he continued on his way.
At night, just like at noon, a fire needed to be lit. Little Tuanzi was afraid of the dark, so Yan Yun stayed with her in the carriage and did not go out. Han Shu asked Qing'er to accompany him to get food.
Neither Yan Yun nor Xiao Tuanzi touched the snacks that Sima Yue had given them.
Outside the carriage, a horse neighed.
The little girl was very scared as it was her first time staying out overnight, especially in such a remote place. Yan Yun took out a lot of the things Zheng Jihua had brought from his bundle, but the little girl was still listless. Yan Yun patted her on the back.
Would talking to her make her feel better?
Qing'er hasn't returned yet either.
Just as Yan Yunsi was wondering what to do.
Outside the carriage, Nan Yunjing spoke through the door, "I'll stay with you on the roof of the carriage."
After saying that, he reached out and tapped the roof of the carriage.
Shu Shu immediately recognized Nan Yunjing's voice.
"Sister, it's Brother Nan."
Shu Shu spoke into the air above her head.
"Brother Nan, is that you?"
"Yes."
Upon hearing Nan Yunjing's answer, Shu Shu covered her face and leaned against Yan Yun, her earlier fear gone.
Yan Yun looked up and saw that although he couldn't see him, the sound he made proved that he was on the roof of the carriage.
He was very kind to Shu Shu.
Han Shu and Qing'er brought the food back.
Qing'er said she couldn't take it with her and would like to trouble Mr. Han for help.
Han Shu said she was too talkative.
Shu Shu was even more docile than during the day, and said to Grandpa Han, "Grandpa Han, I can't eat."
Han Shu instructed Yan Yun, "Since she doesn't want to eat, take a look at the snacks we had during the day, and feed her a piece when she gets hungry."
After dinner, he told Qing'er to get into the carriage as well.
"You should go upstairs and rest too."
Qing'er looked at Han Shu and immediately refused, "I'll just stay outside and keep watch."
Han Shu said sternly, "You girls, just do as I say."
Han Shu yawned and went to the fire.
Qing'er and Yan Yunshu stayed in the carriage.
Qing'er was still saying, "Miss, I'll go stand guard outside the door."
Yan Yun grabbed her hand and kept her there.
This area is a desolate wilderness, unlike any other place with an inn. Since our journey is a bit slower today, we have no choice but to camp here.
Mr. Han was worried about them, which is why he let them stay in the carriage to rest.
With Nan Yunjing on the roof of the carriage, there's no need to worry about safety.
Yan Yun held Shu Shu in his arms.
Qing'er took out the luggage that Zheng Jihua had prepared. The fur cloaks inside were enough to cover the three of them.
During the night, Shu Shu called out her wet nurse's name a few times.
Yan Yun slept soundly through the night.
Although the carriage was simple, I was much happier than when I was in Zheng Yuan.
Before dawn, Qing'er got up early again to prepare water for Yan Yun and the others to wash.
When the day came, Shu Shu seemed to have been fully revitalized. Looking at Mr. Han, she completely forgot about the argument they had made the day before.
Yan Yun followed the gaze and saw that Nan Yunjing was already in the group.
Qing'er packed her things.
They set off again.
Shu Shu reached out and patted Han Shu's lower back. "Grandpa Han, how is that? Was that enough?"
Han Shu spoke in a stern tone.
“I told you yesterday that you don’t need to do these things.”
He handed the scroll to Shu Shu, saying, "Read this to me."
The scroll was so heavy that Shu Shu could barely lift it. She put it aside and started reading from the beginning. Yan Yun sat beside her, and Han Shu didn't let her rest either, saying, "Look at this."
Han Shu gave Yan Yun another scroll.
The little dumpling's voice was very loud, and Yan Yun couldn't concentrate on reading the book because of the little dumpling's buzzing voice.
Han Shu asked Yan Yun, "Where do you see?"
Yan Yun rubbed his head and pointed to the twentieth line.
Shu Shu had read almost a full line. "You've only read a few lines? Can't you concentrate?"
She was indeed a little uncomfortable reading books inside the carriage, and with the little dumpling talking beside her, she couldn't concentrate at all.
Han Shu snorted coldly.
"Keep watching."
Yan Yun gritted his teeth and continued watching.
Qing'er brought them water.
Yan Yun felt dizzy and lightheaded. She pulled back the curtain, peeked out of the wooden window, and held the book in her hands.
Han Shu shook his head.
So delicate and graceful.
Yan Yun felt her head clear up after getting some fresh air. She looked at the book, but her mind was drawn to the surrounding scenery.
Shu Shu followed suit and pulled back the curtain, but she was too short and could only stand up.
Sima Yue slowed his horse down to the same pace as Yan Yun. He looked at Yan Yun and said, "I heard that Miss Zheng's name is Ning'er. I wonder if I may call you by your name directly, as it would be more intimate."
"Of course not."
The little dumpling pulled Yan Yun back and hurriedly pulled down the curtain.
She said angrily to Yan Yun, "Sister, I don't like him talking to you."
Yan Yun nodded.
She doesn't like it either.
"really?"
Yan Yun nodded again, and the little dumpling picked up the book and started reading again.
Han Shu shook his head.
This girl is truly fearless.
Outside the carriage, Sima Yue was humiliated but did not get angry, while the attendants following beside her couldn't bear to watch.
"Young master, she is too ill-mannered."
Sima Yue raised her hand to interrupt him.
"Alright, she's just a girl. Can't we afford to get angry with her?"
The attendant immediately lowered his head; their young master would never do that.
Sima Yue rode her horse to Nan Yunjing's side.
"Young Master Nan, are you adapting well to your position at Baima Academy?"
"Just ordinary."
"Mr. Han asked you to be his bodyguard, so you must be exceptionally skilled in martial arts. It would be a waste of your talent to have you stay at Baima Academy."
Nan Yunjing replied calmly, "I have no great ambitions; I just try my best to do everything well."
Sima Yue felt that such talent was exactly what was needed. "If I were to invite Young Master Nan, I wonder if Young Master Nan would grant me this honor?"
“Now that Mr. Nan has a position, please allow me to refuse.”
Sima Yue smiled.
“Every man has lofty ambitions, and Young Master Nan is no exception. I only hope to become friends with Young Master Nan, and I don’t want to be at odds with him one day.”
"Don't worry, I had no such intention."
