Under the moonlight

Chapter 128 Is your back bad?

Chapter 128 Is your back bad?

As darkness gradually fell, it was the perfect time to go out and investigate. The pale blue light of the sky would not make their figures too conspicuous, yet they would still be able to see clearly in the dim light.

Zhao Meng was the first to climb onto the wall, looked down, then found a flat spot and jumped down. Xu Ao followed closely behind, and finally Li Shuo also jumped down.

"Wow, this wall is like two different worlds. Inside, you can still feel the presence of living people, but coming out is like hell on earth. There's not a trace of living people here." Li Shuo looked up at the desolate scene and had only one feeling in his heart: this is fucking hell on earth.

"Stop reminiscing, let's go." Xu Ao pushed up his glasses, rolled up his sleeves, and started walking towards the path he remembered.

"Are you sure there's a path in here?" Li Shuo followed behind Xu Ao, trudging forward with difficulty, his steps uneven.

"Yes, the weeds had almost completely covered the path by then, but there were definitely weeds there," Xu Ao said firmly.

“Something’s not right,” Zhao Meng, who was following at the very back, suddenly said.

"No, brother, don't scare me. In this wasteland, with the weather like this, what you're saying is a bit creepy." Li Shuo suddenly stopped and turned to look at Zhao Meng.

“Listen carefully,” Zhao Meng said seriously. Seeing that he wasn’t joking, Li Shuo stopped talking and quieted down.

“There’s not a sound at all.” Xu Ao listened carefully for a while, and that was the strange thing he noticed.

"Logically speaking, with so many weeds, how could there be no insects? S country is warm and spring-like all year round. I can understand that there are no tall trees or birds nearby, but how can there not even be the sound of insects chirping?" Zhao Meng said, echoing Xu Ao's words.

"No, brothers, you two, please have mercy, I'm really getting goosebumps. To tell you the truth, what I fear most is those baseless rumors, really!" Li Shuo said as he leaned back, his hands unconsciously gripping Zhao Meng's arm, looking around with a tense and fearful expression.

"Let go." Zhao Meng watched as his hand moved up his forearm, uttering those two words coldly.

"No, I already called you brother, I'm really scared of this thing!" Li Shuo quickly explained as he watched Zhao Meng walk past him with a cold face, leaving him at the back. At this moment, who cared about saving face? Survival was the most important thing!

“Here it is.” Just as Li Shuo was feeling tense and fearful, Xu Ao found the path. “Look, this is it. There are no weeds here, it’s just covered by wild grass on both sides.” Xu Ao bent down and pointed to the clean and flat ground in front of him, saying to Zhao Meng.

"Hmm." Zhao Meng responded calmly. At this moment, Xu Ao noticed Li Shuo behind him. "What's he doing?" He looked at Li Shuo, who was clinging tightly to Zhao Meng's back with a terrified expression. If he didn't know Zhao Meng's sexual orientation, he would have really thought...

"Stop looking, let's go." Zhao Meng saw that Xu Ao's eyes were constantly staring at them, and knew that he was hiding some dirty thoughts, so he urged him quickly.

Xu Ao turned his head and began to work seriously. He kept bending over and kept pushing aside the weeds blocking his way with both arms. Walking like this was too tiring. After a while, he couldn't take it anymore. He put one hand on his waist and pointed ahead to Zhao Meng with the other hand, "You go first."

"What's wrong? Your back isn't feeling too good!" Zhao Meng teased Xu Ao as he walked forward.

"Stop talking nonsense, if you can do it, then you try!" Xu Ao said defiantly.

Zhao Meng smiled but didn't say anything. Of course, he knew that this was the most tiring thing. The group traveled slowly along the way, and Xu Ao carefully observed everything, but there were no pits!

"Ah, um~" Just then, a gasp came from behind, followed by what sounded like someone suddenly covering her mouth.

Xu Ao and Zhao Meng turned around at the same time, only to see a fleeting image of Li Shuo. He seemed to have fallen down, yes, suddenly, he fell down.

Xu Ao and Zhao Meng hurried to Li Shuo's location, but apart from the overgrown weeds, there was no sign of him. They dared not shout, as it was already dark and they could only see things an arm's length away.

Xu Ao and Zhao Meng suddenly felt goosebumps all over their bodies. They felt tense and scared. After all, they had all grown up watching Chinese horror movies. In such an unusually quiet and eerie atmosphere, it was impossible not to be afraid, especially since their companion had disappeared innocently.

Just as the two of them were wandering around aimlessly, they heard Li Shuo's faint voice coming from the roadside, "I, I, cough, cough, I'm here~"

"Where?" Xu Ao asked Zhao Meng. Zhao Meng gestured for him not to speak, and then listened carefully. It seemed that a faint sound was coming from the roadside to their left. Yes, it was from inside. The sound was muffled, as if it were being covered by something.

“He’s inside,” Zhao Meng said, looking at Xu Ao.

"Inside? What inside?" Xu Ao looked at Zhao Meng with a puzzled expression.

The two men stared at each other for a moment, then reacted simultaneously, "Inside the pit!" They moved almost at the same time, lowering their voices to call out, "Li Shuo, where is he?"

"Here, here." They quickly received a response; a patch of weeds to their left and in front of them began to shake violently.

The two received the signal and hurried over to push aside the bushes. They saw Li Shuo with one leg hanging off the edge of the pit, his hands gripping a clump of weeds by the roadside, half of his body dangling.

"Come quick, we can't hold on much longer!" Li Shuo looked up at the two of them and said hurriedly.

Zhao Meng and Xu Ao didn't have time to speak. They quickly reached out and pulled him out. Once outside, they saw that because the weeds were so thick and obstructed their view, a pit had been dug out on what was originally flat roadside, but it was covered by the weeds around the edges and they couldn't see it.

"Oh my god, that scared me to death! My God, that was close! I almost fell down," Li Shuo said, patting his chest as he climbed up.

"Fall down? Does that mean there's still space below?" Xu Ao grasped the key words in his words.

"Yes, my other leg is dangling in the air, there's no foothold for me to grab onto," Li Shuo said nervously.

“So this is the trap your colleague was talking about,” Zhao Meng said seriously, looking at Xu Ao.

Xu Ao looked up at the sky, where the moon was low and the stars were sparse. "Let's call it a day. It's getting dark. Let's go back first and come back tomorrow."

Zhao Meng nodded in agreement. Indeed, if even Li Shuo's 185cm long legs couldn't reach the bottom, then the pit was quite large, and it was hidden behind weeds. Who knew how big the diameter was? If someone fell in, they might not have Li Shuo's luck.

"Let's go," Xu Ao said with a sigh. The three of them quickly returned to the wall, used their hands to climb over it, and then prepared to return to their respective rooms.

Seeing the food placed outside Huang Meng's room, Li Shuo assumed she was still resting. He raised his hand and waved to Xu Ao and Zhao Meng, who were diagonally opposite him. But as soon as he turned his head, Xu Ao noticed something was wrong.

"Wait, let's go to your room first." Xu Ao looked at Li Shuo's face and felt that something was wrong, but he couldn't remember what it was. That feeling of being scratched by cat claws was really torturous.

"Um, hey, what's wrong? Are you trying to comfort me?" Li Shuo watched Xu Ao walk towards him. Zhao Meng, who was standing next to him, noticed that something was wrong with Xu Ao and followed him over. The two of them pushed and shoved Li Shuo into the room.
