Chapter 806 - 415: A Monumental Lie
Her hand was soft and delicate, and when she gently held his hand, a current seemed to pass through his entire body. This was the first time she had ever treated him like this.
He was eager to be discharged, but this incident happened too suddenly. He had to figure out a plan first; there could be no room for error.
"No, we need to check if there are other injuries." Joshua Hughes’s mind was swiftly racing; the Hughes Family’s old house definitely couldn’t be an option for her, and the Imperial Garden might not work either. Those places were likely to provoke her, so he had to find a new place to serve as their home.
This was a lifetime, and he had never truly owned a home with any real meaning.
This word inexplicably moved him. He needed a bit of time to prepare for his life with her. So, discharging her immediately wasn’t an option.
Sufficient sunlight streamed through the hospital room window. Avery Jane sat on the bed, waiting for the doctor to complete all the examinations so she could be discharged.
Joshua Hughes watched from the side; she looked so docile in her hospital gown.
"Mrs. Hughes, you can’t be jumping around all the time when you go back, understand?" The head doctor advised with a smile after the checkup.
He was also cooperating with Joshua Hughes.
This was a massive undertaking, so Joshua Hughes did everything possible to maintain his lie, even enlisting the cooperation of the hospital’s doctors in his script.
Avery Jane smiled a bit awkwardly and nodded.
"Let’s go home." After staying here for two days, she felt almost suffocated, and Joshua Hughes took out a set of clothes from the cabinet, "Change into these, and we’ll leave immediately."
He had been busy for the past two days, needing to be with her while making all the necessary preparations. He wanted her to live in a new world, where she’d never think about the past again.
The car stopped in a high-end residential area not far from the Hughes Clan, a development Alexander King had initiated a few years ago. Joshua had acquired a top-floor unit there, though he rarely stayed. It unexpectedly came in handy today. Two days ago, he had someone replace the furniture, prepare all kinds of clothes for her, and removed all the tags, washing everything. Various feminine essentials were neatly arranged on the bathroom counter, with small amounts already used so she wouldn’t realize they were brand new, just prepared.
Thankfully, they were newlyweds, so everything being new wouldn’t arouse her suspicion.
"So, we’re living here?" Avery Jane curiously looked around the spacious house, feeling comfortable with the beige sofa and matching long-pile carpet.
"Actually, we just moved in a few days ago. Didn’t we just get married?" Joshua Hughes stroked her hair, her shiny black locks gleaming under the ample light, remarkably captivating.
"What do I do for work?" Clearly filled with curiosity, she pulled him onto the sofa, smiling as she asked.
"You work as an office clerk in my company." He had everything arranged for her job. Everything was meticulously planned.
"But you didn’t want any colleagues to know you’re married. The two colleagues you originally knew got transferred to a branch, and two newcomers replaced them. You’re considered a new hire as well." Joshua Hughes casually continued, observing her reaction.
"Oh, so I can go to work tomorrow?" Avery Jane looked at the man by her side; he had a strikingly masculine visage, strong eyebrows and eyes, sensual lips. His dark suit paired with a matching shirt and tie was understatedly luxurious.
He was a wealthy man, and Avery Jane found it amusing how she seemed not to know her husband at all.
Actually, he didn’t really want Avery Jane to work, but staying at home could make idle thoughts wander. Until he was certain she loved him completely, past unpleasant memories were something he absolutely couldn’t allow.
Perhaps after two or three years, even if she remembered, it wouldn’t matter. Or if by then, they had one or more kids together, maybe she wouldn’t be so ruthless to leave.
"Of course, do you want to reveal your identity or not?" Her face had the best skin, flawless, with alluring jade-like earlobes he adored. As his long fingers gently kneaded her earlobe, her flushed appearance was utterly charming.
"Of course, I can’t let anyone know, aren’t you my boss?" The tingling sensations from her ear felt like torturous pleasure, making her lightly tremble.
"Boss?" Joshua Hughes chuckled deeply, never realizing Avery Jane could be so adorable. Maybe this was her true nature.
She was just a twenty-year-old girl, perhaps meant to be bright and cheerful.
"What are you laughing at?" She looked up at him. Was her question that funny?
Avery Jane suddenly froze, as if touched by a spell. He was her husband, but such intimate gestures were unfamiliar to her. However, intimate gestures between couples should be normal, so she didn’t want to resist, choosing to close her eyes and silently endure.
She dared not move, nor struggle, not like past times with cold stiffness. She was merely shy, perhaps curious to open her eyes but hesitant, her long eyelashes fluttered like butterfly wings, brushing his heart like a feather fan, feeling unbearably ticklish...
It turned out her forgetting the past was such a blessing, Joshua Hughes holding Avery Jane could hardly believe such a day could come, able to sit with her on the sofa, embraced, where even silence was immensely warming.
Yet Avery Jane’s disappearance left some unable to sit still.
Alexander King’s office
This was the first time Nora Thompson came to see him, which Alexander found hard to believe. Since she officially filed for divorce, she even answered his calls rather reluctantly. Alexander couldn’t help but admire Isaac Thompson; though rough around the edges, he’d raised a daughter with exceptional grace.
"Charlotte, what’s the matter?" Clearly, she was visiting because something had come up; otherwise, her nature would have her avoiding him.
"Avery Jane is missing, and I hope you can help me find Joshua Hughes." Nora Thompson was a bit worried. After Avery Jane asked for Joshua Hughes’s number, there’d been no news for three whole days. She could determine Avery Jane had encountered trouble, likely ending up back in Joshua Hughes’s hands. If that’s true, the situation was dire; Joshua Hughes wasn’t known for kindness, and Avery Jane was genuinely in danger this time.
