A Shocking Dream

Chapter 149

Chapter 149

However, it was those painful experiences that made her the resilient woman she is today. She took a deep breath, buried the memories deep in her heart, and focused all her attention on the crisis at hand.

"Come on, I won't be afraid of you anymore." Lin Wunian said softly. Although her voice was soft, it revealed her courage to face death. She took a small step forward and took the initiative to break the brief stalemate between her and the wolf pack.

"Woo!" a wolf from the pack cried out, then stepped forward, constantly examining Lin Wunian. Its steps were light yet carried an indescribable dignity. A complex light shone in its eyes, not entirely ferocious, but rather a hint of doubt and inquiry. It stopped a few steps away from Lin Wunian, lowered its head slightly, and sniffed the air, as if trying to capture his unique scent.

Lin Wunian also watched the wolf warily, her sword still firmly in her hand, but she didn't rush to attack. She could sense that the wolf's behavior was unusual, and a trace of doubt arose in her heart. Why did this wolf approach alone? Did it recognize that she was no ordinary enemy?

The other wolves in the pack seemed puzzled by the wolf's behavior. They stopped roaring and watched quietly. The wolf king whimpered softly, as if in warning or questioning.

The approaching wolf slowly circled Lin Wunian, its eyes never leaving her. Lin Wunian shifted with its movements, not daring to slack off. Suddenly, the wolf crouched down in front of her, raised its head, and looked directly into her eyes. A low, gentle sound emanated from its throat, as if conveying some kind of message.

Kankan nervously called out, "Sister, be careful! It might cheat!" Lin Wunian nodded slightly but didn't respond. Her intuition told her that the wolf meant no harm for now. She tried to relax a little, staring into the wolf's eyes, trying to decipher more.

The wolf stared at Lin Wunian for a moment before slowly standing up. It shook itself gently and then turned to walk back toward the pack. Its pace was neither fast nor slow, each step carrying a distinct rhythm, as if it were contemplating some important decision.

When it reached the wolf king, it stopped, noses touching, and a series of low whimpers and growls emanated from its throat, as if it was telling the wolf king its observations and judgments of Lin Wunian. The wolf king listened quietly, the fierce gleam in his eyes gradually wavering. From time to time, he turned his head to look at Lin Wunian, his ears moving slightly, as if weighing the pros and cons.

Then, the wolf turned to face Lin Wunian again, its front paws slightly bent, its body lowered, in an inviting gesture. Then, it slowly began to retreat deeper into the forest, looking back at Lin Wunian as it retreated, its eyes filled with expectation, as if beckoning Lin Wunian to follow it.

"I'll go with them?" Lin Wunian seemed to understand the wolf's eyes at this moment. She looked at the wolf king and then shook her head.

Her eyes flickered between the wolf king and the villagers, filled with worry. She knew that if she left with the wolf pack, these defenseless villagers would be exposed to danger. She couldn't abandon them out of curiosity or the so-called pull of fate. Kanan seemed to understand her thoughts and held her hand tightly, offering silent support.

The wolf king gazed at Lin Wunian, a glimmer of understanding in his icy eyes. He raised his head and howled at the night sky, then turned, signaling the pack to follow. Though agitated, the wolves obeyed, slowly retreating deeper into the forest. Before departing, the special wolf gave Lin Wunian a deep look, one filled with regret and reluctance.

Lin Wunian took a deep breath and made a bold decision. She turned to Kankan and said, "Kankan, wait here. I'll go with them. I have a feeling there must be something hidden behind this. Perhaps I can solve some of the mysteries and completely resolve this feud."

Kanan's eyes widened, her face filled with worry: "Sister, how can this be possible? You're going deep into the wolf pack alone. What if something unexpected happens..."

Lin Wunian gently held Kankan's shoulders: "Believe me, I have my considerations. If I don't come back for a long time, you don't have to wait for me, just leave on your own." After that, she resolutely let go of Kankan and walked towards the wolf that beckoned her.

The wolves slowly turned and led Lin Wunian deeper into the forest. Lin Wunian followed closely behind, each step steady and powerful. Although a hint of trepidation remained, his desire for the truth was greater. As they went deeper into the forest, the light grew dimmer. The trees blocked out the sun, leaving only dappled moonlight filtering through the leaves.

The wolves stopped at a quiet valley. The special wolf approached Lin Wunian, gently nudged her with its head, and then headed toward a cave in the valley. Lin Wunian followed it into the cave, which was filled with an ancient and mysterious atmosphere. Strange phosphorescence flickered on the walls, illuminating the scene within.

Deep in the cave, Lin Wunian saw a massive stone tablet, engraved with ancient runes and patterns. She approached the tablet, her fingers gently touching the lines. Suddenly, a powerful force surged into her body, and a series of blurry images flashed through her mind: her experiences in this forest in her previous life, her connection with the wolf pack, and a secret that held the fate of this forest...

Lin Wunian was shocked. In her previous life, she had actually led a wolf tribe. The blurry images gradually became clearer, and she saw herself standing atop a mountain, surrounded by the majestic wolves. She commanded them with unwavering confidence, leading them to deploy defenses against the menacing forces of darkness. Her posture was swift and resolute, her eyes gleaming with fearlessness and determination. She seemed a little different from her current self.

She had once risked everything for the wolf clan, sharing the hardships with them, roaming the mountains and forests, protecting every inch of land. But why had the memories of her past life been buried, only awakened now? Lin Wunian was filled with confusion and bewilderment.

She thought of her companions who had been lost in battle in her previous life. The lives of those wolves were lost in protecting the mountains and forests. Their loyalty and bravery deeply touched her heart.

Lin Wunian walked out of the cave and looked at the wolves before her, a complex emotion welling up in her heart. She said to the wolf king, "How did you... recognize me? I've changed my appearance now."

The wolf king gazed at her quietly, his deep eyes seemingly able to penetrate time and appearances. After a long moment, he slowly approached Lin Wunian, sniffing her scent. Then, the wolf king raised his head and let out a low whimper, as if struggling to form words.
