Chapter 1000 - 959: Sixth Master Wants to Be a Stay-at-Home Dad
Chapter 1000 - 959: Sixth Master Wants to Be a Stay-at-Home Dad
"Why would they do something like that?"
Both of them were carefully selected, the Johnson Family treated them really well, their pay and benefits were better than those of senior white‑collar workers, so why would they hurt Sheehan?
"No idea."
This kind of thing is really hard to investigate. A child who can’t talk yet—even if he knows who did it—can’t say it.
"I understand. Adrian Desmond already knows Sheehan was hurt, so we’ll let him handle the rest of the investigation. You go back to Cloudscape Mansion and stay with Kiki."
"Okay."
Sienna Johnson hung up on Adrian Desmond, then called him again, but this time he didn’t pick up.
"Where did he go with Sheehan in his arms?"
...
Maternal and Child Health Hospital, Pediatrics Department.
Adrian Desmond brought his sound asleep son in to see the doctor. After learning the reason for the visit, the doctor sighed that families nowadays really make a fuss over nothing.
"For a little injury like this, you don’t need to come in. Children’s skin is very delicate, so it makes the injury look a lot worse than it is. It’s actually fine, it’ll go away on its own in a few days."
Adrian asked, "What could have caused this?"
He needed to determine whether the bruise on his son’s arm was an accident or done on purpose.
The doctor picked up Sheehan’s little arm and examined it carefully, then said, "It looks like he was pinched. See the size of these two bruises? They match the shape of finger pads..."
"..."
Seeing Adrian’s expression, the doctor asked, "Is your child being cared for by a nanny?"
"Yes."
The doctor said, "You’d better have his grandparents on either side take care of him. He’s so little and can’t talk—how can you feel comfortable handing him over to a nanny?"
"Mm."
"Don’t worry, it’s nothing serious. Your son is very healthy."
The doctor called in the next patient, and Adrian, still uneasy, asked, "Doctor, shouldn’t you prescribe some ointment to put on it?"
"All medicine has its side effects! No need for any ointment."
"..."
"There are so many patients waiting. Don’t come to the hospital for little things like this again. Raising a boy like this is not good for him."
...
After being lectured by the doctor, Adrian walked out of the hospital with Sheehan in his arms.
It had started raining outside. Autumn rain brings a chill; it felt a few degrees colder than before.
Adrian took off his coat and wrapped his son tightly in it. Marion stood beside him holding an umbrella over them, not letting a single raindrop fall on Sheehan.
Because of Sheehan, the heat inside the car had been left on. Adrian ran hot, and as soon as he got in, he broke into a sweat.
Marion noticed and asked, "Sixth Master, should I turn off the heat?"
"No, just turn it down a bit."
"Yes."
Sheehan slept soundly in his father’s arms, drooling from the corner of his mouth. Adrian took a small cloth and wiped the drool away.
Marion’s phone rang. He said a couple of words, then handed the phone to Adrian. "Sixth Master, it’s 002."
Once Adrian found out his son was hurt, he’d told 002 to investigate. Now 002 should have the result.
"You found out?" Adrian asked.
"Sixth Master, it was Auntie Poppy!"
"You’re sure?"
"Positive!"
For security reasons, Adrian had had many hidden cameras installed in the Johnson Family home, and one of them had caught Auntie Poppy on video pinching Sheehan.
"Have Sabrina Conner take care of her." Adrian didn’t even bother asking why Auntie Poppy had pinched Sheehan; he gave the order directly.
"Yes."
After hanging up, Adrian returned the phone to Marion. Marion took it and asked, "Sixth Master, how about we pick a few people from the base to take care of Sheehan?"
"Those people at the base have no idea how to look after such a tiny baby."
...
Adrian took Sheehan back to the Johnson Family home. Just then, Sheehan woke up and kept burrowing anxiously into Adrian’s chest, crying. Adrian knew that meant he was hungry again.
Adrian carried Sheehan off to find Sienna Johnson so she could nurse him.
"Ah..."
"What’s wrong?"
"It hurts when he sucks."
Sheehan gulped milk so urgently he often choked while nursing. Watching his son break out in a sweat as he ate, Adrian said, "It’s not like we ever starved him. Why is he always in such a rush?"
"If he has a good appetite and eats a lot, he’ll grow strong, and then he won’t get sick so easily."
"Waaah..." Sheehan’s head was covered in sweat as he suddenly started wailing.
"He was eating just fine, why is he crying?" Adrian asked, confused.
"There’s no more milk." Sienna said awkwardly.
Sienna had always been short on breast milk, and now that Kayla Jones had left, of course she couldn’t keep her son full.
"I bought formula today. Go make him some." Sienna said.
Looking at his son crying with hunger at the top of his lungs, Adrian could only go and prepare the formula.
Adrian finished mixing the formula and handed it to Sienna. "I checked the temperature. It’s just right, he can drink it now."
Sienna dripped a few drops onto her forearm and said, "It’s too hot."
"I just tasted it; the temperature was perfect."
"What feels fine on an adult’s tongue is too hot for a baby. You have to test it on the skin of your inner elbow."
"Waaah..." Sheehan cried loudly, too impatient to wait for his milk any longer.
Adrian took the bottle back and dripped a little on the inside of his own forearm, realizing the temperature was indeed higher than what his tongue had felt.
"How did you know that?"
Adrian adjusted the temperature again. Once he was sure it was okay, he handed the bottle to Sheehan. Starving, Sheehan grabbed it and gulped it down.
"Curly was on formula when he was little too."
Adrian gave Sienna’s chest a squeeze and said, "Looks good, useless in practice!"
Sienna: ...
After Sheehan finished his bottle, Sienna handed him over to Adrian, asking him to hold Sheehan and help the milk go down smoothly so it wouldn’t get stuck in his throat.
Adrian paced the room with Sheehan in his arms, one hand stroking down his back. "Raising a kid is really exhausting."
"You’re only realizing that now."
Adrian had been thinking it over all the way back. Watching Sienna sitting on the bed reading a project proposal, he said, "I’m not planning to hire a nanny anymore. I’ll take care of Sheehan myself."
"You’re giving up your business?" Sienna looked up at Adrian and asked.
Adrian’s business was much bigger than Sienna’s. Having him look after the baby was basically a complete waste of his talents.
"Earning a little less is fine."
"Sixth Master, are you planning to become a stay‑at‑home dad?"
"What’s a stay‑at‑home dad?"
"A stay‑at‑home dad is a man who chooses to take time off and stay home to care for his child."
Looking at her son sleeping soundly with his head on Adrian’s shoulder, Sienna said, "I’ve got a huge backlog of work. Starting tomorrow I need to get busy again. I’m afraid I won’t be able to take care of Sheehan myself.
As for nannies, I really don’t dare use them again.
If you can look after Sheehan, that would be the best."
The two nannies they’d had were both carefully selected, and still this kind of thing had happened. Sienna really didn’t dare hire a nanny to take care of the baby anymore.
"Then I’ll do it."
"If you can take care of Sheehan, I’ll be completely at ease."
Sienna had originally planned to entrust the baby to Pauline Briggs, but unexpectedly, the always pampered Pauline had actually fallen ill from exhaustion.
"I’m not planning to hire any more nannies either. I don’t trust them. I’ll take care of the baby, and you focus on your work."
