Chapter 134 Walking Between Her Comfort Zone and Danger Zone
Lu Xingchen woke up in the middle of the night. Rain was pouring outside the window. There was only a dim floor lamp on in the room. Her stomach was feeling uncomfortably hungry. She reached out to rub it, and suddenly found that there was an arm pressing heavily on the quilt.
"!" Lu Xingchen took a breath and sat up.
Li Zhen, who was sleeping outside her quilt and holding her in his arms, was awakened by her action and opened his eyes. He watched Lu Xingchen looking at him in disbelief for a moment, then he sat up and put his big hand on her forehead.
Lu Xingchen raised his hand to stop him, frowned and asked, "Why are you here?"
Her voice was low and hoarse. Li Zhen glanced at her, took his hand back, got out of bed and turned on the light. "Huanxi called me."
Lu Xingchen: “…”
Li Zhen walked to the kitchen and turned on the rice cooker which was in keep-warm mode. "Don't worry, I'm not here to force you to like me. You can get along with me however you want in the future."
This statement did not seem to have any credibility. Lu Xingchen stared at his tall back for a moment, "I don't think I would let you climb onto the bed and hold me to sleep."
Li Zhen's back stiffened slightly. Seeing that she had lost weight and was sleeping in a ball, he couldn't help but want to hug her. Unexpectedly, he fell asleep as well: "I haven't had a good rest recently. I fell asleep accidentally. It was not intentional."
He brought the porridge over and placed it on the coffee table, "Come and eat."
After saying that, seeing that Lu Xingchen didn't move, he added, "You won't get angry with your stomach, will you? Or do you want me to bring the porridge to the bed for you to eat?"
Lu Xingchen was really hungry and not feeling well, so she didn't waste any more time getting out of bed and walking to the coffee table to sit down. In front of her was a bowl of glutinous millet porridge.
Then Li Zhen brought another bowl of the same porridge and placed it on the coffee table. He then pulled a chair to the other side of the coffee table, sat down, and scooped up the porridge to drink.
After taking a few sips and realizing that Lu Xingchen didn't do anything, he looked up and said, "I saw that you fell asleep, so I only cooked porridge for fear of disturbing you. Have a couple of sips first to fill your stomach, and I'll make you something else."
"No, porridge will be fine." Lu Xingchen also picked up the spoon and started eating.
After taking a few bites, she saw the person sitting opposite her just drinking porridge without saying anything. She didn't know what to say for a moment, so she buried her head and continued eating. When she saw that he had finished eating, she said, "Sorry to bother you again."
"It's a small matter, no trouble."
Lu Xingchen keenly noticed that this person's way of speaking was different from before. He was not so aggressive, nor was he stubborn in demanding an outcome. Instead, he was more polite. Although she didn't know how long this politeness would last, she didn't want to be too harsh when he was polite.
"Are you done eating?"
"I've eaten."
"Then I don't have anything to do here, otherwise, you can go back first."
Hearing this, Li Zhen raised his hand and looked at his watch. It was past four in the morning. "Well, it's almost dawn. Are you sure everything is okay?"
"fine."
"How about taking your temperature?" Li Zhen suggested kindly, "Your forehead is still a little hot in the middle of the night."
So did he touch her forehead in the middle of the night? Lu Xingchen nodded, "I'll get the thermometer."
"You continue eating and I'll get it. But you have to tell me where the thermometer is. I couldn't find it last night."
"In..." Lu Xingchen suddenly remembered that the forehead thermometer she bought before seemed to be broken. She hesitated for a moment and simply touched her forehead herself, "No need to test, I don't have a fever anymore."
"You can't feel it yourself, let me take a look." As she spoke, a big hand covered her forehead. Lu Xingchen held the spoon in her hand and tilted her head back, not daring to move. Fortunately, the warm palm only stayed on her forehead for a moment before it was retracted. "Your fever is gone, how about your stomach, does it still hurt?"
Maybe it was because of the illness that his mind became dull, but Lu Xingchen felt that his words and actions were a little dull: "It doesn't hurt."
Li Zhen nodded, "If you feel uncomfortable again, call me." He added, "If you feel it's inconvenient, call Huanxi."
He suddenly became so considerate that Lu Xingchen was not used to it, so he politely replied, "Okay."
Li Zhen stood up and said, "Then I'll go back first."
Being so polite, shouldn't she stand up and see him off as a courtesy? Lu Xingchen hesitated for a moment and was about to stand up, but Li Zhen said, "Eat yours, no need to see him off."
She sat back on the sofa.
After a while, she heard a door closing sound, neither loud nor soft. When she was the only one left in the room with a bowl of porridge left, her ears were finally pulled away from the illusion of extreme silence and filled with the sound of heavy rain outside the window.
Lu Xingchen suddenly stood up quickly, walked to the bed, picked up the phone and dialed Li Zhen's number.
She hung up the phone right after she made the call. What did she want to ask him if he didn't bring an umbrella, or if he should wait until the rain stopped before leaving.
Lu Xingchen shook his head, put the phone back on the bedside table, walked back to the sofa and sat down. He looked at the half-eaten porridge in the bowl in front of him for a moment, then picked up the spoon and started eating again.
The next day, she came to work as usual, but she ate porridge in the middle of the night and wanted to sleep for a while. She found it difficult to fall asleep. When it was dawn, she squinted for a while and woke up a little late.
She arrived at the company on time and ran into Li Zhen and Luo Shi coming up from the underground parking lot in the elevator she had waited for in the lobby. When she was hesitant about whether to go in, Li Zhen took the lead and said, "Come in."
Lu Xingchen walked into the elevator, "Good morning, President Li, good morning, Assistant Luo."
Luo Shi was surprised at his boss's calmness, but he replied to Lu Xingchen without much enthusiasm as usual: "Good morning."
The elevator goes up.
Li Zhen looked at her and asked, "Why don't you rest for a few more days? Is your body okay?"
"It's okay now."
Li Zhen didn't say anything else. Actually, Lu Xingchen was happy to see such peaceful coexistence.
But when she got home from get off work that night, she found that the refrigerator had been tampered with. The things that had been stored there before had been basically emptied. There were several neatly stacked fresh-keeping boxes of vegetables inside, with the names of the dishes and dates written on the outside of the boxes. In the freezer were several boxes of handmade dumplings, with the flavors handwritten on the outside. The beautiful handwriting did not look like Li Zhen's handwriting.
But she still took out her cell phone and called Li Zhen.
The phone rang and was picked up.
Before she asked Li Zhen, she said, "It's about the refrigerator, right? I cleaned it for you. There's hot porridge in the rice cooker. If you want to eat the food in the refrigerator, heat it up in the microwave. If you don't eat it in the next two days, don't eat it later."
Lu Xingchen couldn’t tell what he felt in his heart, “Aren’t you getting along according to my wishes?”
"Huanxi told my mom about you eating something bad. My mom was planning to send it to you at the company... How about this, when you recover, I'll have a good talk with my mom and ask her not to do things that put pressure on you."
Lu Xingchen couldn't refute it, so he could only say: "Thank auntie for me."
"Well, anything else?"
I feel like there is something there but I can’t put my finger on it, “It’s gone.”
"That's it for now. By the way, I've replaced the milk for you. Don't drink expired milk anymore."
Lu Xingchen was inexplicably embarrassed, "I only realized it was expired after I finished drinking it."
"Check the expiration date before eating anything next time, but try to eat hot food recently, the same goes for milk."
These caring words made Lu Xingchen silent again.
Li Zhen stopped talking and said, "Let's go eat. I'm hanging up now."
Lu Xingchen looked at the hung up phone, then looked at the things in the refrigerator, and finally raised his hand to close the refrigerator door. He dragged his somewhat tired body to lie down on the sofa for a while. At this time, he saw a new first aid kit on the table, and a new thermometer on the box.
Li Zhen, that guy, is walking between her comfort zone and the danger zone. Lu Xingchen feels a little headache.
