Chapter 1 Become a Ghost!
Chapter 1 Become a Ghost!
[This book pays homage to a potential setting given by the author, Koyoharu Gotouge: Tanjiro is more talented as a demon, while Nezuko is more talented as a swordsman!]
[I also express my respect and apology to Koyoharu Gotouge (the author of Demon Slayer), as some parts of the plot may have been based on the original work.]
[Aside from some character relationships being swapped, the character settings are guaranteed to be true to life!]
Now, let's move on to another version of Demon Slayer!
"Brother! I'll go sell charcoal; your illness is too serious!"
Nezuko looked at Tanjiro, who was weak all over, with a face full of worry!
Tanjiro wrapped his clothes tighter around himself and gently stroked Nezuko's head.
"Nie Douzi, please take good care of Mom and my younger siblings. I'll be back soon!"
Hearing the noise, the mother in the inner room struggled to sit up, her withered hands gripping the door frame tightly, and coughed as she asked.
"Tanjiro, is your body... really alright?"
Just as Tanjiro was about to offer some words of comfort, his vision suddenly went black, and his body uncontrollably lurched forward.
"elder brother!"
Mi Douzi cried out and rushed forward, catching him steadily with her thin shoulders, and carefully laid him flat on the soft cushion by the kang (a heated brick bed).
When his younger siblings saw this, they all surrounded Tanjiro in terror.
The mother clutched her chest, tears streaming down her face, but she didn't even have the strength to get up, and could only weakly call out to him.
"Tanjiro... my child..."
"Brother~"
Looking at Tanjiro, who was constantly sweating, Mizuko was filled with anxiety and worry.
Looking out the window at the snow falling heavily, she understood why her brother insisted on selling charcoal.
Heavy snow is about to block the mountain passes, and if the family doesn't have the money from selling charcoal, they may not be able to survive the winter.
My mother's condition worsened, and my younger siblings were still very young.
Since their father passed away, the entire burden of the family has fallen on the older brother's shoulders.
Mingming's older brother is also a child, only a year older than him.
Thinking of all this, Midouzi's eyes welled up with tears.
She gently put down her younger brother from her back and instead carried a full bamboo basket of charcoal on her back.
The bamboo basket weighed heavily on her shoulders, its biting weight causing her to stumble, and making her more acutely aware of the hardships her brother had endured over the years.
She then felt even more sorry for her brother.
"Mother, brother, I'll go sell the charcoal this time."
Nezuko looked at her mother with a determined gaze, and then at Tanjiro, who was struggling with his eyes closed.
The younger siblings also looked at Nidouzi with tears in their eyes, full of worry, wishing they could grow up now to help their older brother and sister.
Looking at her younger siblings, Midouzi smiled gently and patted each of their heads.
The mother looked at Ni Douzi with heartache, wanting to say something, but she couldn't bring herself to say it because of her guilt.
Mi Douzi didn't say much, smiled and nodded to her mother, and was about to get up and leave when she found herself being pulled back.
"Nei...Nei beans..."
Tanjiro could also sense his sister's resolute emotions, and could only weakly hold her back.
"I'm sorry, Nezuko, it's all my fault..."
"Brother, why do you always say sorry? I'm also part of the family."
Seeing Tanjiro's self-reproachful expression, Nezuko became somewhat angry.
My brother, who could have taken responsibility himself, always insisted on shouldering everything and then kept apologizing.
Tanjiro weakly opened his eyes, looked at Nezuko's somewhat angry expression, and gave a feeble smile.
Nezuko angrily pressed Tanjiro back onto the soft couch.
"Brother, you get some rest. I can do it too!"
Tanjiro looked at Nezuko and sensed a hint of anger and resentment.
Knowing that there was no point in saying anything more, he could only force a smile, hold Ni Douzi's hand, and touch his own earring with his other hand.
Nezuko looked at Tanjiro's actions with some surprise.
"It's your first time selling charcoal, and it's snowing outside. Wear the earrings your father left you, and may the God of Fire bless you."
Tanjiro removed the sun-shaped earrings from both ears and placed them in Nezuko's hands.
"Brother, this is what Father left for you to inherit!"
Ni Douzi panicked and wanted to retreat.
Tanjiro weakly shook his head.
"You're also part of the Kamado family, you said it yourself, so take it with you."
"Nezuko, take this with you. May the Fire God protect you on your journey. Return it to Tanjiro when you return!"
Then the mother spoke up.
Nizuko looked at her mother, then at Tanjiro who was smiling gently at her.
He nodded emphatically, put on the sun-shaped earrings, slung the bamboo basket over his shoulder, said goodbye to Tanjiro, his mother, younger brother, and younger sister, and left home.
Tanjiro looked at the snow falling heavily outside the house, and closed his eyes in worry, praying silently.
"Father, please bless Mi Douzi and bring him home safely!"
In the snowy mountains, Mi Douzi made her way down the mountain, making snowdrifts with each step.
During this time, I also realized how much hardship my brother has endured over the years.
She looked up at the sky and knew it was getting late. She had to sell all the charcoal and get back before dark, so she quickened her pace.
This was her first time selling charcoal for her brother, and the snow was very heavy, which caused her to be delayed on the road for a long time.
Following the directions her brother gave her for the charcoal collection point, Mi Douzi quickly sold all the charcoal.
Just as she was about to leave, it had already gotten dark.
The shopkeeper saw that Nezuko was a little girl and knew that she was Tanjiro Kamado's sister.
So they took the initiative to invite Nidouzi to stay for one night, since the Zaomen family all lived on the mountain.
The mountain road was very rugged at night, and wild animals were also present. The boss was also worried about the little girl.
Midouzi was very worried about her older brother, mother, younger brother and sister, but she also knew that what the boss said made sense.
It's not safe for me to come down the mountain when it's light, and if something happens while I'm going up the mountain at night, my brother will have to come looking for me.
She didn't want to be a burden to her brother, so she had no choice but to agree to the boss's suggestion to go home at dawn.
Tanjiro, who was at home, showed obvious improvement after resting during the day.
After settling his younger siblings in, he looked out the window at the swirling snow and the deepening darkness of night, and his unease grew heavier.
"Why hasn't Mi Douzi come back yet?"
He muttered to himself, and just as he reached the door, a strong stench of blood suddenly broke through the wind and snow, carrying with it a nauseating sense of evil, and clung tightly to his nostrils.
"Cough...this smell..."
Tanjiro suddenly covered his nose, his hair standing on end.
The smell was like a cold, venomous snake, crawling into his lungs through his respiratory tract, making him dizzy.
Just then, the snow outside the courtyard suddenly began to move without any wind, and a dark figure appeared on the snow like a ghost. The black suit stood out starkly against the white snow, and the red pupils resembled two flickering will-o'-the-wisps.
"I never imagined there was such a family living deep in the mountains."
The man's voice was mocking, but his gaze froze as he swept over Tanjiro's red hair and the scar on his forehead. Disgust and fear surged across his handsome face.
"Damn it...this look is just like that guy. In that case...you might as well become a ghost!"
